You might, but that's a different story. I simply contending that an isolated distasteful joke shouldn't create a portrait of someone.

This drama is going around in circles. The argument in question is going nowhere. I can easily delete 3 pages of it posted in this thread.

Bingo. Why was that so hard to get across?

Kind of an irrelevant point since the distasteful joke isn't an isolated incident.

When the ongoing discussion is about the morals of black comedy (as off topic as it may be), it is relevant. Regardless, I didn't realize this was a trend with said individual. Carry on.

I want to continue to discuss the morals of black comedy in a new thread with more objectivity and less hurt feelings. I think I'll create one.

None of the above jokes are funny, except for maybe God jokes because fictional characters are fair game. The ones about domestic abuse, racism, genocide, and the holocaust are pretty awful as well because they make light of subjects that shouldn't be taken lightly, and YES when you make jokes about them, they are taken lightly. Sure, you may say to yourself "But I would never lynch someone/gas someone/beat my wife whatever the hell, but this is such an egocentric view of a touchy subject. You may not do those things or approve of those things, but someone in your audience may begin to lack the proper reverence for them. I mean, especially domestic abuse and rape, what with the plethora of "get in the kitchen" jokes that seem to form a camaraderie of misogynistic *******s who don't even know they're woman haters. Or when people see that one graphic of the woman holding a sign saying a percentage of women suffer from domestic violence every year, and it says around it " (the other percentage) didn't need telling twice" or some stupid **** like that. People find this humourous, what the ****? All these kinds of jokes contribute to rape culture, and there is a constant undercurrent of "She asked for it though! she should have given the man what he wanted!" that is extremely unnerving to witness. What's even more disgusting is if a woman speaks out against it, she has no sense of humour or the state of her menstrual cycle is called into question. I mean, really? Someone who uses things like rape and paedophilia to shock ARE subhuman monsters, there is no escaping that at all, gaining laughs or attention at the expense of the suffering of others is utterly repugnant.
Times like this I really wish this forum had a "like" button.

I'm getting pretty tired of the word "rape" becoming synonymous with the word "defeat" among the gaming culture.

I say it sometimes. If I get beaten in some way in anything in life I say "I got raped right there." Same thing as saying that is "gay", while not meaning 2 men making love.

I say people should accept what these words are also used for and not be so sensitive. If you spend your entire life trying to be politically correct about every thing especially words out of someone elses mouth then its your loss. Im sure someone will say or think horribly of what I have said but frankly I dont concern myself with it. If you cant be a realistic human being about it then your loss. Im jewish, when someone got cheated out of somehting and says
i got jewed out of that" or something of that sort I dont get mad. Its not an attack on my religion or me, its just a term ingrained in society usually used jokingly.

(when I say you I do not mean yourself Pete, just as a general You to the masses)

There's no use in trying to avoid offending everybody, it's impossible.
