I think about this too. My son often tells me, "Mom, you're going to be really sad if something happens to Paul [McCartney]."

I've been thinking of Paul every time I hear that a 60s rockstar passes. I'm named after McCartney's birth first and middle names. That loss is going to be devastating.

So cool that you were named after Paul's first and middle names, ISB! James Paul. I like both those names very much. Your parents chose well.

My son's middle name is Harrison...after you-know-who.

rubber soul, John's death was horrible and I'm still not over that one either.

She is fine. I wouldn't kick her out etc. But come on. I can see the teenies lining the streets and jumping off buildings if she dies young, but unless there's a real tragedy, she's likely to be quite old when she does, and I doubt she'll still be making music. I'd imagine she'd be remembered by the generation she dies in as maybe I don't know, Carole King or Karen Carpenter is by this one. Which is to say, not at all.

Ed Sheeran on the other hand, well the nicest thing I can say about him is he's not Lewis Capaldi.
I've nothing nice to say about Sheeran. I hate the guy.

I'm just hoping Springsteen lives forever. I've already had to deal with the passing of Bowie and Dan Fogelberg (who?) and of course Gary Moore and Rory Gallagher.

As for being named after something, I feel I was named after much alcohol was consumed...

Dude what? Saying Carole King and Karen Carpenter are not at all remembered by their generation is a hell of a baffling take, maybe not by rock snobs who somehow convinced themselves Ted Nugent and Foghat are the peak of music but Carole King is one of the most celebrated songwriters of her generation dude, and while The Carpenters were once a favorite punching bag of rock critics they remain a beloved act even among younger people, I'm a millennial and I f*cking love the Carpenters, and I know I'm not alone, it just isn't hip to hate 70s soft rock anymore.

If you think Taylor Swift's legacy will be comparable to those two then I'd say she's done really well for herself.

That entire statement by him is completely out of touch with reality.

To the point at hand, RIP Jeff Beck - talented dude. I've only ever listened to Blow by Blow and Wired, I should probably check out some other stuff of his.

Lord almighty! Read what I said! I said that Karen and Carole are not remembered by THIS generation, not their generation! Of course they were huge back in the 70s and 80s and I love both, but ask any young person today who either were and they're likely to ask if maybe their new mixtape has dropped. I'm pointing out that someone who was huge in their time does not, with the current attention span of music fans of this generation, go on being so. And so when Swift or Sheeran pass on, let's say in forty/fifty years or more, our descendants are more likely to say, who were they than there goes another legend.

That's not how musical legendary status works. Being a legend doesn't mean the average kid knows you; there are only a few musicians from the 60s-70s who are widely known among kids and Jeff Beck wasn't one of them either. In that respect, Taylor Swift is comparable to neither Carole King and the Carpenters nor to Ed Sheeran. I don't think Taylor Swift will ever have a legacy interesting enough to rank with the former, but she will certainly have a substantial legacy whether you like her music or not, unlike Ed Sheeran, who has never done anything or interest to music

Apologies for my poor reading comprehension but I don't think you're giving younger generations enough credit, most young casual music listeners probably don't know the greats of the past, but that's been true of every generation before them, casual music goers tend to only know what's easily available to them and they have other interests so they don't dig any deeper than that, that's always been the case and that's fine, but there will always be people who want to explore the history of music, most young people seem to have one nerdy obsession or another and if it's music they're gonna learn about Carole King and the Carpenters sooner than later.

As for Taylor, no one can really say what her future legacy will be.
