The favorite band of my ex wife. When I came to NYC in 2017 we had one of those whirlwind romances and she was very eager to get married to a Canadian because it was at the peak of lib panic about the cheeto in chief. We married after two months of dating and then started discovering that we had basically nothing in common. I really liked her but pretending I was into her artistic pretensions (she's an artist) and tastes grew even more tedious than some of the other annoying things about her. I distinctly remember sitting down to listen to the New York Dolls and thinking "this is the most boring **** I've ever heard."

IMO they're just another Kiss: visually strong with zero good songs.

Some years back, a guy a knew who was a part time professional musician (among other gigs, he played with the Glenn Miller ghost orchestra) heard she was looking for a drummer for an upcoming tour. A mutual acquintance gave him her cell number. When he called her, she was upset: "Who the hell gave you my number?", but calmed down when he explained the situation. She told him that the drummer spot had been filled

This reminds me of the 1973 CREEM Readers poll. The New York Dolls were voted 'Worst Group' beating out The Osmonds and the Dolls were also voted Best New Group beating out Queen, Aerosmith and Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's fair to say they were polarizing!

Back in 2019, I saw Joey Molland, Todd Rundgren, Mickey Dolenz, Christopher Cross and Jason Scheff (Chicago) on stage together performing The Beatles White Album. Each artist performed a couple of their own songs as well.

I think I first heard of Roy Ayers from the "Coffy" soundtrack from the Pam Grier flick. He had an impressive discography.

The Damned have been an all-time favorite band of mine since the late 70's. Probably in my top 10 for punk bands.
