Gene Hackman: One of Hollywood's greatest 'tough guys'

Quote:
The US actor, his wife Betsy Arakawa, 64, and their dog were found dead at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Santa Fe County Sheriff's office in New Mexico confirmed they were found "deceased Wednesday", but that officers "do not believe that foul play was a factor".

Yeah, it is strange. The first thing that I thought of was carbon monoxide poisoning. I guess we'll find the details out soon enough.

Exactly. Seems very strange, although Hackman was 95. Hopefully we'll get some news soon.

Hackman was one of my favorites and seemed like a truly decent guy - married to his wife since 1991, developed other interests outside of film and fame. He was proud to be on Nixon's "enemies list." Unforgiven, one of my favorite movies of all time, would not have been the same without him.

Robert John, best known for his 70's hits "Sad Eyes" and a cover of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight":

I wasn't all that fond of his two 70s hits but "Janet", the b-side to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", is definitely worth a listen:

David Johansen

Never paid much attention to him outside of the New York Dolls but the their debut album is an all-time favorite LP of mine.

He’s been in bad health for awhile but it’s still sad.

I didn't know about his failing health over the past several years until I read about it today. Sounds like the last 3 months were particularly cruel to him.

Countless hours of listening since I was a teenager and three outstanding concerts courtesy of David Johansen and company. Lighter held high, LUV

I saw the New York Dolls when I was in Austin for the SXSW festival back in 2005. It was David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain. Arthur Kane had been playing with them but passed away suddenly several months prior. An enjoyable show even with just two of the original members present.

That was the only time I saw either of them perform live.
