The homophobia in hip hop actually has been a point of conversation for a while now and it's just simply not true that nobody addresses it or that there haven't been significant shift in the prevailing attitudes towards lgbt issues in the last 20 years. The homo thugs line was extremely tame, relatively speaking, and was penned by sometime decades ago with a long history of mental illness and addiction who is just now recently deceased. If you wanted to take him to task for that you're about 10 years late.

Also... "You'll give him a pass cause he's black" is quite literally the standard conservative "white guilt" talking point. Good one, Hannity.

It's the standard conservative take to bash hip hop in general and search for reasons to dismiss the genre. Especially these days when hip hop just might bring us the first transgender superstar. The homophobia take is so outdated. It's like they don't know about Tyler, the Creator, Frank Ocean, Kevin Abstract & Lil Nas X being huge in the culture.

I think Adi has every right to hate and celebrate DMX's death but to me it just feels like him looking for another way to criticize black culture and bring attention to himself rather than genuine outrage because why wouldn't he bring up the dog fighting? The actual animal cruelty is far worse than some words in a song. Make all the excuses you want for DMX but who ever traumatized him probably made the same excuses too.

Exactly.. dmx was far from perfect and I'm more than willing to address that. But the selected lyrics are being taken out of context and blown out of proportion for manufactured controversy and retweets. He died and so twitter is like wait! We forgot to cancel him for what he said about homo thugs in 2003! How did we miss this?

Cause you were too busy watching eminem dance with Elton John to make good for his own homophobic lyrics which were much more explicitly targeted at homosexuals than DMXs were. But he got pressure put on him and so he danced with Elton John. Maybe if you called to ask dmx when he was still alive he could've redeemed himself but you missed the boat so instead let's just hijack his death for woke points.
