Through the grapevine on Facebook which I followed to Gary Lucas's personal page where he announced that Cotton succumbed to cancer on the 6th. Currently reflected on wiki too but unsourced.

Seems like it would be getting at least a little formal press.

Sunny Murray's took hours before it went up, plus Cotton was pretty reclusive.

Friend from High School overdosed yesterday apparently. I haven't spoken to him since then, so ten years, but we hung out a lot. He was never the brightest kid, which is why I stopped hanging out with him really, but he always had a good heart and dammit the kid made me laugh.

We once had a substitute teacher in high school and we were all dickheads so when she passed out the attendance sheet we all wrote names like "Hugh G. Wang", "Heywood Jablomey", and "Dick Zenormous". Jimmy wrote "Spiderman". The next day when our actual teacher came back she said she was extremely disappointed in all of us and that we should be ashamed to have treated our sub so badly. She sighed and sat down to silence. Then Jimmy raised his hand and said "Miss _____, I have a confession. I'm the one who wrote Spiderman. She just looks at him and goes "Well I appreciate the honesty Jimmy but I wasn't really referring to that name."

I couldn't stop laughing. I still think about it. He was so sincere. Anyway, I wasn't close to him for the last decade so it's not like I'm super upset. Just a kid I knew in HS. Still...

Drugs suck.

Gary Lucas only shared the news last night and as far as I know that's the start of it.

Not really sure. News broke on Facebook. I don't have Facebook. Heard from a friend that it was an overdose but it's been confirmed. My guess is fentanyl or heroin as my area of the country is in the middle of an epidemic with that sh*t right now.
