Drowned. I doubt they slept through it. I just skimmed through the article but I didn't see it say anywhere that they were asleep. I imagine tons of water flooding in is a pretty decent alarm clock.

They were in their sleeping quarters. I heard other reports that most of the crew was asleep at the time.

They could have died from impact of the other ship. Why do you just assume that they drowned?

A flooded compartment just means that it was flooded after impact. They could have died peacefully in their sleep. The flooding afterwards didn't matter if they were dead already.
