Well, Mark Arm coined the term and Green River was right up there with Melvins as far as genre pioneering goes. Seems core enough.

I claim ignorance of course. Though I guess it's because I've not really delved into Melvins either. I know, I'm a horrible Seattle local.

Green River is the only thing good anyone from Pearl Jam ever did.

And Mad Season although I guess you could say that Staley carried the band.

10 is a great album if not for the song Black alone.

Every band that makes a living playing music was in the right place at the right time. Still, Smells Like Teen Spirit was destined to be an anthem. Bash me for being obvious but that song was destined.

Frownland, on Grunge going corporate, man, all those guys wanted to be rockstars from the get go. I knew that apathy schtick was bull**** before it even started. Apathetic people don't have Marshall Stacks. They were always just as about the money as the rappers who bragged about it. They got what they wanted. Even Cobain.

Green River was no Slow. Slow released this same year same as Green River released their first EP. They had played in Seattle before that though (Slow being from Vancouver) and Mark Arm even claimed to be a fan, so there are camps who think that Slow, a and from Canada could have pioneered more than people think, but sadly Slow didnt get that much attention, despite releasing one of the best EPs of all-time.

So little attention that I've never heard of them. Will be checking it out shortly.
