Yeah Green River and Mudhoney were a part of it but to say they were the core is a bit of a stretch. Again, grunge isn't a style of music. Like Janz was saying it's just a marketing term. The Seattle scene was led by the big four. They represented a bit of diversity in the sounds coming out of the area when it came to Seattle rock music.

No on Green River but yes on Mudhoney. Though I'd trade out Nirvana for Tad any day. Nirvana were fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time. Had they tried to get into the mainstream at any other time, they wouldn't have been able to do it. Mostly because Cobain could not sing his way out of a plastic bag.
