im fully aware of the real peace protests in history where peace was actually in play. and though im offended by the amount of deaths to our troops and innocent iraqi people this war has amounted, i just cannot see what these protests are actually doing. half the people i saw in these protests were just uni students trying to look cool or tagging along with mates because they had nothing better to do.thats the annoying thing- that they didnt seem to actually care. and yes, the fact they were defacing their own city did annoy considering a main concept of peace is a "prosperous environment"...yeah so lets just litter hyde park. and contrary to what your saying about the police instigating most of the violence- from what i saw, it was actually the peace protestors. my rant basically is why cant the protestors actually adhere to the rules ans regulations, cause no trouble and just conduct the protests amicably. while putting their rubbish in the bin

If you want peace you must prepare for war.

thats from a movie...which moive is the question

I have nothing against protestors. Hell i protest on occasion. but the tactics used by some infuriate me. Burning effigies of political leaders is barbaric. its attention grabbing, immature, and disrespectful. if you want him outta office prove a case against him. don't burn a picture. mongrels

I have no respect for our president, and would burn a picture of him in a heartbeat. Its funny how radical war activists were prior to the Iraq war. Burning copies of the quran, throwing away French wines and war medals, boycotting german goods. Yet if one pamphlet is burned people pout about it.

if you don't respect him thats fine, but respect the office he holds.

I was no a radical war activist, nor will i ever be. I am undecided still on the long term benefits/consequences of our actions and have yet to make up my mind

a pamhlet? where did that come from? i'm talking about life size statues.

You forgot to add the rest of the quote my friend, "I went into the Army believing that if you want peace you must prepare for war. I now believe that if you prepare thoroughly for war you will get it."

~Sir John Frederick Maurice

Things take on a whole new meaning when you put them in context. Th sad thing is that our kids will never learn about the times of peace in our nations history simply because the "civilized" nations of the world (America) know more about war than they do about peace. Why do US peace efforts fail? Probobly because we have less experiance wmaintianing peaceful relations with countries than waging war on them.

As for your point stu I understand your frustration, and I agree that many people go to protests for the wrong reasons, but you can only hope that these same kids that go just to be cool acctually end up educating themselves and getting involved with a cause. And I still think that its really silly that people complain about litter when there country is murdering hundreds in foreighn countries. But yes I see the point your making and on some very small level I agree with you.
