Its late night once again....I had a question...what would be the most cost effient way of recording all my songs? I dont want to put this off any longer...I just dont know the best way of going about it?

Bloozcrooz 03-01-2011 12:57 AM

Not everbody chime in all at once with your ideas..lol...I can only register so much at a time. Great feedback though

Howard the Duck 03-01-2011 12:58 AM

i have no idea - i'm new to recording myself

you probably need a mixing board and a digital portable studio

Sounds exspensive...it doesnt have to be perfect. Even a raw sound would be fine with me. All I want it to be is just my vocals and guitar work nothing else. Just good enough to where I could get them all on a disc and save them. If I keep putting it off..one day im just going to completley write it off and forget about some of the stuff ive written.

Howard the Duck 03-01-2011 01:04 AM

then do it like me, record on a two-track cassette, rerecord on an mp3 recorder, burn on disc

Sounds easy enough now all I have to do is find a friend with all of that equipment. I have nada

Howard the Duck 03-01-2011 01:47 AM

you can probably get them at a second-hand store or pawnshop

most mp3 players have built-in recorders

lol sorry. I was thinking that it's better off you create a thread on the top in the instrument section and may s_k or one of the others would see and give you a proper answer

Bloozcrooz 03-01-2011 02:02 AM

Its cool...I thought id mention it while it was fresh on my mind or id forget once again.

djchameleon 03-01-2011 02:25 AM

oh okay, yeah i'm bad with that. If I don't write it down on a list I tend to forget

Do you ever get an idea for a song..set down to write it...then realize theres already a song that says exzactly what you were trying to say...so then your like...eh whats the use?

djchameleon 03-01-2011 02:30 AM

nope because I'm a unique beautiful butterfly and all of my songs are original pieces

none of my songs try to capture anything cliched, there're mostly about feelings about girls I dated, situations or just descriptions of myself

none of any complete set of my lyrics ever remotely resemble anything else recorded (not the songs that I've heard anyway) and if they do, I throw some lyrical twist on it

Bloozcrooz 03-01-2011 04:34 AM

Ahh...I thought I had a good melody earlier but meh. Im just getting lazy now a days when it comes to writing I guess.

On a different note I see all the big wigs of the forum are on.

djchameleon 03-01-2011 04:38 AM

yeah some kind of conspiracy is going down....

Administrator and Yac.

Well more like Admin is the big wig and then Yac is like our collective Pastor and if we want to communicate with Admin we have to pass our prayers onto Yac.

that's because you don't believe that they are watching you doesn't mean they aren't.

Calm down man..its just a forum. Not trying to come off as arrogant but what are you worried about them watching you for? Are you stressing a ban or something?

it's half past eight at night here and i can't concentrate on some astral medium stuck in between the world of the living and the dead (part of Gravity's Rainbow, which I'm reading)

think I'll just lie here and relax to Bach

That's going to sound like utter crap.
Want a cheap & good recorder?
http://www.bax-shop.nl/components/co...d_recorder.jpg
Zoom H1.
Will set you back about 100 bucks, can record via it's own microphone, has a line in, line out, mic in, even automatic recording level (should you ever want that). It's a great little thing.

So if I buy that and record my stuff on their. How do I go about transmitting it to a c.d.?

s_k 03-01-2011 06:26 AM

You just copy it to your computer and burn it to a disc with your computer.
It works like a camera or an mp3 player. You just hook it up and your computer will see the files :).

Sounds like a deal to me. At least a temporary fix till I have the means to do something better recording wise anyway.

s_k 03-01-2011 06:31 AM

Well it is really really good.
I used to own the more expensive H2, but this actually sounds a bit better.
The mics are brilliant, it's really fast and if you want to use an external mic, that can be done too. So you can upgrade if you want to.
You can plug in a pair of headphones to monitor yourself, which is a nice feature too.

I would advise you to buy the additional accessory pack which contains an adapter, a little tripod, a protective bag and a windjammer.
The Zoom H1 itself comes with a set of batteries and a 2GB SD card, that's it.

Ill definatley check it out and appreciate the help

s_k 03-01-2011 06:37 AM

No prob. There's no need to buy expensive stuff as you see.
Altough I must say I can't understand how they managed to build two microphones, pretty good preamps, some software and a display into a housing for such a tiny amount of money :)

Howard the Duck 03-01-2011 07:26 AM

i didn't say it'll sound good using my technique

s_k 03-01-2011 07:47 AM

hahaha, then what's the use? ;D.

By the way, how do you transfer from cassette recorder to mp3 player?

Howard the Duck 03-01-2011 07:52 AM

he said he wanted it "raw"

I just recorded direct from the speakers - i was going for the Daniel Johnston effect

here's the result in case anybody's interested (which I doubt):-

PatriKc Lim (Il Duce)'s sounds on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

s_k 03-01-2011 07:57 AM

Hahaha, I must admit it sounds rather cool, but probably a bit too raw.
You could always distort stuff afterwards :).

Howard the Duck 03-01-2011 08:01 AM

i got a Daniel Johnston CD that sounds like that, and people hail him as a sort of folk hero so why not?

Bloozcrooz 03-01-2011 08:02 AM

I appreciate the advice both of you gave and yes a raw sound is fine. Meaning it doesnt have to be perfect. I was just trying to go the cheap easy way to start out. Then if I ever get lucky enough to do a real recording ill cross that bridge then. I doubt ill ever get the chance to use any real equipment that would allow for a good recording though. But im not stressing on the quality at this point.
