Zoom H1.
Will set you back about 100 bucks, can record via it's own microphone, has a line in, line out, mic in, even automatic recording level (should you ever want that). It's a great little thing.

So if I buy that and record my stuff on their. How do I go about transmitting it to a c.d.?

You just copy it to your computer and burn it to a disc with your computer.
It works like a camera or an mp3 player. You just hook it up and your computer will see the files
