Not trying to sound like a white knight, but after years of working fast food and listening to the customers in drive thru talking to the women taking their orders it's become absolutely embarrassing just how many southern men think it's totally okay to call them "honey", "sweetie", "baby", etc. Like, the ****ing company should make it a policy that a female worker can demand that they not be called a condescending "nickname" without fear of getting fired, because it's constant and ****ing irritating. Does nobody tell you neanderthals that this is bull****? No? Then maybe it should be the people who depend on not pissing you off for their paycheck who should be able to do so cause nobody else seems to be educating you. ****ing ****s. God I hate customers.

Although that one time the guy working drive thru with the effeminate voice got called "baby" was still one of my happiest moments.

I get called sweetie and sweet heart a lot by older women, I don't find it condescending.

You ought to come to Baltimore. Even the older men call each other hon. Sweetie, not so much.

That's because you're a man, you dolt. I don't find it condescending when a black dude calls me "boy" either but it actually is condescending, just like an old lady calling you "sweetie". There's just no history of a power dynamic in their favor.
