Field strip them (twist the rest of the tobacco out of the end until there is only a filter left), and put them in your pocket.

But where will we put the strips? The filter smells too because they suck a lot of the smoke, toxins, and nicotine.

To be honest I don't excuse littering, but I understand how annoying carrying butts are until you find a bin or a toilet. I tried to do that today, sorta burnt my hand after scraping it to put it out so I ended up holding them upright and felt like an idiot so couldn't be bothered and flicked it.

Also there are convenient ashtray tins you can take anywhere with you. So I'll try that...

The smell is gonna be there yes, but so does your hands and breath, although it may not linger as long as a stripped butt. I do this all the time, and as soon as I see a proper receptacle, I dump what ever butts I've accumulated into it. As far as burning yourself, I keep forgetting others may not have calloused hands like I do. You could always scrape it on the ground or on the side of a wall as an alternative. Grass even works.

I do like the ashtray tin idea.

So you just carry them? Or put them in your pockets? I do scrape them and try to put them out, before I started flicking them. However sometimes you can't tell whether they're completely put out or not.

Also I just edited my post, what do you do with the strips?

Just hold the butt below the cherry with your thumb and forefinger and twist it until the cherry falls out. Works every time for me.

Alright I'll give that a try.

I put the butts in my pocket, or backpack, or disc bag (when disc golfing). I'm usually dumping a bunch of butts out when I clean em. It's better than littering. I used to mow a guys lawn that had parties quite often and after mowing, it was almost like it had snowed from all the filters left over from people just flicking their butts into the lawn. The filters are what take the longest to decompose, so thats what got me into doing what I do.

I used to work as a custodian at Disney World which is where I really began to discover how much it annoyed me when people tossed their butts on the ground. I bet I've literally swept up hundreds of thousands of them in my life.

*Gasp*

Dude, you discgolf? Me too. I don't have a bag though. I don't think I want one either. Too much walking to be carrying stuff as well. So, I just keep the one disc with me. These days I throw a wraith. What's your disc situation like?

Don't ever work in a bar.

It's funny though, I'm a bit of an inconsiderate hypocrite when it comes to butts. I flick them out of habit without thinking yet I absolutely hate cleaning them at work... Just realised that.
