i'm very poor in my mandarin and usually rile my fiancee by using direct translations of Cantonese into Mandarin which are phonetically correct but there are no such words in Mandarin

Isn't it the other way round? That Limburg got its name from the cheese that happened to be residing in that particular area?

I dunno, limburg isn't as smelly as the cheese...

Did some research, it's actually belgian cheese.
There's a Limburg in Belgium too .
It's made near the border of the Netherlands in Luik (Liège).
