Respond to a Short MB Questionnaire for all Members! Worth Taking. [Approved by mods]
Hey all,
This is a short Questionnaire I promise, it's in relation to your experiences with the MB community etc. I am a Post-Grad digital-marketing student at Dublin City University in Ireland and the moderator 'Tore' has kindly allowed me to interact with the community. It's an ethnography study - which basically means going native with a community to observe, participate and interact to get a good round view on what makes up the culture and it's members and their experiences. I'm a music lover myself so it's quite interesting to be involved in the area!! The purpose of the research is get an overall idea of how the community works and make a report on it. The report is mutually beneficial as I will involve the MB community in the feedback so that it is completely transparent and everyone benefits for any findings or points of interest I may come across. All responses will be used to give me an overall view and sentiment, if I am to directly quote any participant I will contact them for permission, but all responses are important to give an overall understanding. I'd really appreciate it if you take the time to respond and in doing so you get to help out the community too You can answer below in the thread or just PM me if you want it to be private........look forward to hearing from you all __________________________________________________ _______________ Age (Optional): Location: Music preference: How long have you been a member? What made you join a music forum? How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance? Real Name (Optional): __________________________________________________ _______________ Thanks for taking part, it is very much appreciated!!! I may contact you further through PM if I need to clarify any of your points.... My college assignment deadline is in two weeks Eeeek! so I will be posting it back to the community then Thanks again! |

Age (Optional): Forty *coughsomethingcough*
Location: Manchester, England Music preference: Rare 60's Soul How long have you been a member? About 5 years. What made you join a music forum? Apart from the obvious. I joined this particular forum to widen my tastes and to talk about the music I already love. How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? This was the first forum I ever joined and I seemed to fit in almost immediately. MB isn't perfect, but it's a friendly place. How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? The kind of music I love puts me through the full range of emotions. I'm no stranger to emotional pain. In fact, I'm strangely drawn to it. We're a strange breed up here. We're not happy unless we're miserable. = Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? The sense of community. Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? Taking immense pleasure from banning individuals intent on disrupting that sense of community. What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? That being intolerant of bad taste is OK and that bad taste and lack of intelligence go hand in hand. Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance? I'll get back to you on that after I've formulated an accurate response. Real Name (Optional): David Chumomisto |

Location: Houston TX, United States Music preference: Folk and Hip Hop How long have you been a member? three years. What made you join a music forum? I remember looking for my "thing" when I was a bit younger. Eventually I started listening to some music and like many other young people decided that would be my "thing". I joined this forum thinking I had extensive knowledge of music (I didn't) and wasn't really looking for anything more than people to talk to about the music I already liked, since even though my taste was incredibly mainstream I didn't have many friends who liked the same music. How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? Despite the recent debate about a quality decline, I think MB is easily the most intelligent and friendly web forum out there. The ever evolving community isn't afraid of fresh faces and and the precious few that stick around are usually very interesting people. Muzik forums deserves an honorable mention as a great music forum, but it isn't organized like MB - in my opinion MusicBanter is very easy to use compared to the layout of other forums. How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?I like that music can make me feel all different things at once. I can be saddened by a lonesome and depressing tune and yet feel happy that I'm hearing it. Oldest cliche in the world, but who really needs drugs? There isn't a single one of them out there that can make me feel like music does. Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? The people and the music I discover through them. Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? Realizing that the forum went hand and hand with a pattern of life that was killing me. And then realizing that the problem was with me. What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? I've learned about more music than I ever could have on my own. I really value this place for that. Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance? The cliques here are a bit annoying, and we have a few trolls every now and then who contribute nothing positive to the forum, but they aren't nearly as bad as other websites. Growing interest in music, plus my old music forum died out, so I came to MB. How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? It's more active than most forums and the group of people here are outstanding members. How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?Depends on the mood. I like to have a wide variety of music that fits/complements my current mood. Whatever that may be. Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? The people and friendships are great. Plus you never know when the next epic troll will come along and it's always fun to watch them go down in flames. Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? Not sure I could pick just one, but I'm sure it would involve the shoutbox. What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?I have learned a ton about different genres of music I would have probably never found on my own. I feel like i've grown a lot musically since I've been here. I've also talked to some great people and learned quite a bit about different parts of the world. Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?Musicbanter can and will consume your life as you know it. Location: Ontario, Canada Music preference: Punk rock, hardcore, metal How long have you been a member? Almost 3 years. What made you join a music forum? I love music and wanted a forum dedicated to the subject. How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? There's plenty of activity, the members are knowledgeable, and the slightly elitist vibe that this place carries makes me set my standards a little bit higher. How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? It can mean a variety of different things... depending on what kind of music it is. Bob Dylan's music means different things to me than Mastodon. Most of the music I listen to because it is either uplifting, emotionally draining, or gets me excited. There are many reasons though. Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? The members, mainly. The interface and look of the site is awesome as well though. Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? Witnessing a blatantly false musician profess his greatness (RockGuitar101) What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? I've gained knowledge of all sorts of bands and styles of music, and I've learned that the album format is king. Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance? Joining a forum and being dedicated to it will have a noticeable effect on your life. For me it was mostly positive. Real Name (Optional): Sam

Location: Philadelphia, PA Music preference: Rock, Electronic, Hip-Hop How long have you been a member? A little over a year What made you join a music forum? I felt that I was in a rut with the music I was listening to and I wanted to find a forum where I could discover different genres and groups/artists. How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? It was the best quality music forum that I came across, and the people here were both highly knowledgeable about various types of music as well as mature enough to talk about things that other forums I've seen weren't as open. That and the mods actually do their jobs, hehe. How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? Music is something that I can connect to easily, compared to other forms of entertainment, and is something that I greatly appreciate in my life. Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? Mostly the stimulating conversations and threads on music that I haven't heard before, as well as several members on here who are highly entertaining. Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? The rise and meteoric fall of coryallen2. What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? Other than the music, possibly the perspectives of many of the people here, mostly on the different parts of the world everyone lives in. Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance? What this site taught me about music has greatly affected how i both view music and experience it. As for negative, I fell like some people here tend to view their opinions as law and will gang up on anyone with a different opinion. Real Name (Optional): Antonio Fernandez. HA, try to find me with a name like that!

Age (Optional): 19.
Location: Manchester, UK. Music preference: Alternative/Indie Rock. How long have you been a member? June 09. What made you join a music forum? I really can't remember, I had an interest in music so I thought I'd join a music forum. I didn't really have any intentions, I just signed up. How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? It seemed quite active, which made me stick around for a while to see everyone's love for music in lots of different genres, though I'm also signed up to another music community as well. How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? Naturally, it depends what I'm listening to, but it means a lot to me. Different albums stick with me, they can remind me of a particular season, or a particular time in my life. When listening to something brilliant for the very first time it provokes some kind of an emotional response and I think that's the most important thing. A lot of music, I will be quite indifferent to or I may like it. But really great music gives me an overriding sense of emotion. Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? I used to come back because I wanted more music and people's recommendations were great, but now that isn't really the case. I have enough music and I could still find new music without coming here, but a lot of the members are great and I've come to know some of them really well plus recommendations are still great. Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? Just lots of great debates, lots of stupid ones. Nothing out of the ordinary to tell you I guess. I wasn't around when the infamous RockGuitar101 joined. What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? I'm not too sure, apart of me thinks I have a wealth of knowledge because of this forum because before I liked what I liked and that was it. Before this forum I would've never wandered into other genres due to ignorance, so apart of me feels this forum is responsible for that. However, another part of me feels it was just me growing up. Or maybe it was a bit of both. Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance? I think your questions have it pretty covered. Real Name (Optional): Michael |
