Respond to a Short MB Questionnaire for all Members! Worth Taking. [Approved by mods]

Hey all,

This is a short Questionnaire I promise, it's in relation to your experiences with the MB community etc.

I am a Post-Grad digital-marketing student at Dublin City University in Ireland and the moderator 'Tore' has kindly allowed me to interact with the community.

It's an ethnography study - which basically means going native with a community to observe, participate and interact to get a good round view on what makes up the culture and it's members and their experiences. I'm a music lover myself so it's quite interesting to be involved in the area!!

The purpose of the research is get an overall idea of how the community works and make a report on it. The report is mutually beneficial as I will involve the MB community in the feedback so that it is completely transparent and everyone benefits for any findings or points of interest I may come across. All responses will be used to give me an overall view and sentiment, if I am to directly quote any participant I will contact them for permission, but all responses are important to give an overall understanding.

I'd really appreciate it if you take the time to respond and in doing so you get to help out the community too :yeah:

You can answer below in the thread or just PM me if you want it to be private........look forward to hearing from you all :thumb:

How long have you been a member? About 5 years.

What made you join a music forum? Apart from the obvious. I joined this particular forum to widen my tastes and to talk about the music I already love.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? This was the first forum I ever joined and I seemed to fit in almost immediately. MB isn't perfect, but it's a friendly place.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? The kind of music I love puts me through the full range of emotions. I'm no stranger to emotional pain. In fact, I'm strangely drawn to it. We're a strange breed up here. We're not happy unless we're miserable. :( = :)

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? The sense of community.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? Taking immense pleasure from banning individuals intent on disrupting that sense of community.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
That being intolerant of bad taste is OK and that bad taste and lack of intelligence go hand in hand.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
I'll get back to you on that after I've formulated an accurate response.

What made you join a music forum? I remember looking for my "thing" when I was a bit younger. Eventually I started listening to some music and like many other young people decided that would be my "thing". I joined this forum thinking I had extensive knowledge of music (I didn't) and wasn't really looking for anything more than people to talk to about the music I already liked, since even though my taste was incredibly mainstream I didn't have many friends who liked the same music.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? Despite the recent debate about a quality decline, I think MB is easily the most intelligent and friendly web forum out there. The ever evolving community isn't afraid of fresh faces and and the precious few that stick around are usually very interesting people.

Muzik forums deserves an honorable mention as a great music forum, but it isn't organized like MB - in my opinion MusicBanter is very easy to use compared to the layout of other forums.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?I like that music can make me feel all different things at once. I can be saddened by a lonesome and depressing tune and yet feel happy that I'm hearing it. Oldest cliche in the world, but who really needs drugs? There isn't a single one of them out there that can make me feel like music does.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? The people and the music I discover through them.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? Realizing that the forum went hand and hand with a pattern of life that was killing me. And then realizing that the problem was with me.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? I've learned about more music than I ever could have on my own. I really value this place for that.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance? The cliques here are a bit annoying, and we have a few trolls every now and then who contribute nothing positive to the forum, but they aren't nearly as bad as other websites.

What made you join a music forum? Growing interest in music, plus my old music forum died out, so I came to MB.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? It's more active than most forums and the group of people here are outstanding members.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?Depends on the mood. I like to have a wide variety of music that fits/complements my current mood. Whatever that may be.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? The people and friendships are great. Plus you never know when the next epic troll will come along and it's always fun to watch them go down in flames.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?I have learned a ton about different genres of music I would have probably never found on my own. I feel like i've grown a lot musically since I've been here. I've also talked to some great people and learned quite a bit about different parts of the world.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? Seemed to have a lot of clever, sarcastic members.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? Well now that depends on what I'm listening to. Music is a big part of my life, and I pretty much always have something playing, no matter how actively I'm listening to it...

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? I come here to talk about new music I find, and to find more new music. There's always something to learn here.

How long have you been a member? Almost 3 years.

What made you join a music forum? I love music and wanted a forum dedicated to the subject.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? There's plenty of activity, the members are knowledgeable, and the slightly elitist vibe that this place carries makes me set my standards a little bit higher.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? It can mean a variety of different things... depending on what kind of music it is. Bob Dylan's music means different things to me than Mastodon. Most of the music I listen to because it is either uplifting, emotionally draining, or gets me excited. There are many reasons though.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? The members, mainly. The interface and look of the site is awesome as well though.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? Witnessing a blatantly false musician profess his greatness (RockGuitar101)

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? I've gained knowledge of all sorts of bands and styles of music, and I've learned that the album format is king.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance? Joining a forum and being dedicated to it will have a noticeable effect on your life. For me it was mostly positive.

How long have you been a member? A little over a year

What made you join a music forum? I felt that I was in a rut with the music I was listening to and I wanted to find a forum where I could discover different genres and groups/artists.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? It was the best quality music forum that I came across, and the people here were both highly knowledgeable about various types of music as well as mature enough to talk about things that other forums I've seen weren't as open. That and the mods actually do their jobs, hehe.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? Music is something that I can connect to easily, compared to other forms of entertainment, and is something that I greatly appreciate in my life.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? Mostly the stimulating conversations and threads on music that I haven't heard before, as well as several members on here who are highly entertaining.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? The rise and meteoric fall of coryallen2.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? Other than the music, possibly the perspectives of many of the people here, mostly on the different parts of the world everyone lives in.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance? What this site taught me about music has greatly affected how i both view music and experience it. As for negative, I fell like some people here tend to view their opinions as law and will gang up on anyone with a different opinion.

What made you join a music forum? I really can't remember, I had an interest in music so I thought I'd join a music forum. I didn't really have any intentions, I just signed up.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? It seemed quite active, which made me stick around for a while to see everyone's love for music in lots of different genres, though I'm also signed up to another music community as well.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? Naturally, it depends what I'm listening to, but it means a lot to me. Different albums stick with me, they can remind me of a particular season, or a particular time in my life. When listening to something brilliant for the very first time it provokes some kind of an emotional response and I think that's the most important thing. A lot of music, I will be quite indifferent to or I may like it. But really great music gives me an overriding sense of emotion.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? I used to come back because I wanted more music and people's recommendations were great, but now that isn't really the case. I have enough music and I could still find new music without coming here, but a lot of the members are great and I've come to know some of them really well plus recommendations are still great.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
Just lots of great debates, lots of stupid ones.
Nothing out of the ordinary to tell you I guess.
I wasn't around when the infamous RockGuitar101 joined.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? I'm not too sure, apart of me thinks I have a wealth of knowledge because of this forum because before I liked what I liked and that was it. Before this forum I would've never wandered into other genres due to ignorance, so apart of me feels this forum is responsible for that. However, another part of me feels it was just me growing up. Or maybe it was a bit of both.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?

What made you join a music forum? I had always lurked music forums simply to discover new music. General Music forums not only contain a far more diverse collection of tastes than any media source could assemble, they also provide you with more honest and reliable listener perspectives than any publication or magazine. That, coupled with ease of access and an interactive experience was all I needed.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? I had been active at another more focused music forum previously, and when the owners split up, the rest of the community followed and I left. When I came across this forum, the allure over the last was this broader range of styles and tastes, and the more dynamic community. I inadvertently got comfortable here and now it just feels like home.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? It depends on what I'm listening to, but regardless of what they are, the emotions are always positive in the sense that I enjoy having them, whether it's rage, sorrow or rapture. In that regard, music means an emotional reward.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? The community. It constantly refreshes itself with new and interesting personalities who all have something to offer. And I enjoy doing what I can to help out.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? Heh... video chat with a certain few members one night. I'll stop there.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
I've definitely lost a few musical biases, and gained some others.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
There can be some cliquey behavior at times, and a tendency for some people to treat their opinions like they're written in the margins of the ten commandments, but at the end of the day we're all just lesser parts of a greater whole and will remain beneficial.

What made you join a music forum? I wanted to talk to people about the music I listened to and since I couldn't find any people in my immediate surroundings who listened to what I listened to, I turned to the internet.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? I googled music forums and this is the first thing that popped out. Later I tried another, bigger forum but I found it too large and impersonal. I wanted to be a part of a community and musicbanter seemed just the right size, small enough to enable more personal relationships with other members, large and active enough to keep it interesting.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? A good piece of music can electrify me, make me move, give me goosebumps, whether it's upbeat or just sad, it stirs up emotions and the best of it feels like a little piece of heaven, a taste of the transcedental brought down by the musical Prometheuses to be shared with the untalented plebs. Life would be a much duller, darker place without it.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? The people. Somehow, I feel it keeps attracting a wide and interesting critical mass of smart, funny and knowledgeable people, whom I can learn from and grow as a person.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? Tons of new music, films, books, different perspectives, life experiences, bits and bobs about life in general, generally an enriching experience.

What made you join a music forum?

I was bored and the other forums I frequent aren't nearly as active as this one.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?

It's not centered around one genre.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
It makes me feel lots of things, I usually am always listening to music or humming or whistling or singing. It makes the world feel a little less lonely and makes me feel a little bit more able to articulate feelings.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?
MB is riddled with very tight knit cliques and I've somehow become ingratiated into a little clique and it's all homey and ****.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
Having my tattoos described as fake by a fellow member was quite hilarious, and is still joked about today. I dunno, I've had several as I get into a lot of arguments. OH the Unveiling of Bandteacher1 was pretty great too, since I was in the middle of it and the first to be suspicious.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
Poisonous toadstools don't change their spots. Lots of people really like Radiohead.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
Some people take it too seriously when you insult their favorite band.

How long have you been a member?
Just over two years. By the way, each member has join date under their avatar!

What made you join a music forum?
I was in an exploratory phase where I was looking for new music. Also, I was feeling a bit lonely at the time (I was literally in a place with just a computer and no other people) and sought some human interaction ;) Musicbanter showed up on a google search.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?
I joined a couple, but I only stayed on MB as the community seemed mature and I found a range of interesting threads that caught my interest immediately on joining. I also made friends here almost immediately.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
Hard to describe! More than anything, I think I appreciate aesthetics in music. For example, I don't really turn to music as a way to vent feelings of anger or frustration. Neither do I do it as a way to lighten depressions or anything. The music I like is beautiful to my ears and sometimes, listening to it is just euphoric. I can really get lost in it.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?
Aside from a general fondness for the site and the people that make up for the community, I feel like I can contribute to the site. I can add to it and make it better which is something I like. This does not specifically tie in with my current role as a moderator. For example, I created the Album Review Index before I was modded. Just feeling like I'm adding worth to the site is rewarding to me, whether my efforts are acknowledged or not.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
Immediately after joining up here, I became friends with Comus and Anteater and they shared with me so much interesting music. It was the first time I've ever gotten friends so quickly when joining a forum and it was a thoroughly refreshing experience.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
The experience from helping to moderate such a community of course and the comforting knowledge that communities with real warmth still exist on the internet. And a whole lot of musical influences of course!

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
So it's not all positive and praise, the one real beef I have is that I feel many people want to get their messages across with the absolute minimum amount of effort. For example, if there's a thread asking who's your favourite artist, someone might only write "Michael Jackson, 'nuff said" without elaborating at all on why they think he is the greatest. I feel like it's a toxic culture of lazyness which unfortunately affects a lot of forum users.

What made you join a music forum?
The love for music and the urge to get to know even more music than I do already :)

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?
I like forums where there is a lot of social interaction. I also wanted to get to know people from abroad, just to get an idea what life is like outside the Netherlands. I must say it really broadened my horizon already.
First thing I noticed when comparing forums was that I liked the way the genres were organised here. And that people from different genres get along quite well. That's rare!
I also put rockforums.net in my favourites for later review. Never happened.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
Music can really drag me out of the heaviest moments in my life. It really makes life worth living for me now and then. I even choose my friends based on their taste of music. It's not like I don't like them when I don't like their music, but I sure take it in consideration when forming my opinion on someone.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?
Social interaction, variety of genres, respect for music and members from most members (not all, unfortunately), the fact that people come back regularly. I like to bond a bit. And that's very well possible, here. I immediately felt welcome.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
It's always hard to choose. I wouldn't so much want to describe an experience. I'd like to point out that there's some rather extraordinary members here. I can't help but be interested in the persons they are and they really make life (the world, society) a bit more interesting for me.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
These are tough questions. I can't really name one thing. I get the idea that some things I read here make me less shallow, make me think just a little bit longer about certain things. I think it's hard for you to make something out of the things I say here. I guess you might want to become a regular member to learn to understand this ;)

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
Well I've been involved in many forums for many years and there's only two forums where I feel at home after a longer period of time. One of them is my own audio based forum. The other one is Musicbanter.
So there shouldn't be much change. Positive things you can read above :).
Negative...
Well... I do think though that there's some members who are a bit harsh sometimes. Not just to me, but to a lot of people. And I wouldn't mind if the mods would say something about that every now and then. I know this is the internet, I know this is not real life, but it would be nice if some people realised that they are talking to real people. That's all, really.

How long have you been a member? Like 3 or 4 months

What made you join a music forum?
-I posted on another music forum for 9 years. The last few years the place basically fell apart and I left there in October and signed up here cause 1) I wanted to discuss music (mainly rap) with other people. and 2) I like being a part of an online community

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?
-I just googled Music Forum and this was the first thing that came up. I signed up, posted for a few weeks, liked the size of the community, so I stayed.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
Music inspires me a lot to make my own music. Music is pretty important to me, but it's probably less important to me than anyone else here. I don't listen to that much music, and I'm not really all that in expanding my tastes too much. But before I sit down to write my own, I always throw on some old rap tunes and it really opens up a lot of creative avenues for me lyrically.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?
-Really it's just the community here. Good size, good mix of people. A lot of people here don't even like me, but I still come back. I like reading other opinions on stuff, hearing other peoples music, and making posts on different stuff.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
- I got banned for 2 weeks over Christmas because I photoshopped a clip-art picture of a hot dog in the same picture with a female member here. That was pretty interesting.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
-Nothing really. I mean, i posted on a music forum for like a decade before i signed up here. I already know how forums and online communities work. No discussion here has really changed anything about me. I don't take this forum nearly as serious as a lot of other members. All I really wanna take away from MB is some good discussion and some good laughs.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
-Being part of an online community is kinda a huge waste of time. You spend so many hours of your life talking to people you'll never meet. Makes me wonder if/how it has hampered my actual social life.

How long have you been a member?
Going on four years.

What made you join a music forum?
I was originally one of those dickheads who comes here to promote my own music. And look at me now!

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?
I think it was the first one I came across that seemed eclectic enough for my tastes. It seems like a lot of other music forums are more focused on particular genres.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
Music makes me feel all kinds of ways, that's why I love it so much. Truly there's a sound for every mood.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?
The people. I've been a member of several other forums over the years but this is the only one I've ever found where I felt like I was talking to people that I think I'd actually get along with in the real world.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
Being a mod I guess. This is the only place I've ever done that so it's kind of a unique experience for me.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
That people who say "I listen to everything except country and rap" probably also don't listen to shitloads of other music as well.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
Well I guess learning about new music is the biggest thing.

What made you join a music forum?
I just wanted to be able to discuss music with people who have the same taste in music as i do, and also to discover tons of great new music.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?
It has the most intelligent and open-minded members compared to other music forums i've visited. The discussions are more detailed, informative and in-depth.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
Music makes me feel a lot of things: comfort, sadness, happiness, aggression... basically the whole spectrum of human emotion depending on what i listen to. Music means a lot to me, it's one more reason to live.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?
No matter how long you use this forum you will always discover new music. New members come along and introduce you to a whole new world of music you never knew existed.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
No experiences or incidents really stick out for me, i tend to avoid or miss all the drama that occurs on this forum haha.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
I've certainly learned to have a wide open mind when it comes to music. Whether it's ambient electronica, indie-pop or progressive metal there's always some incredible music to discover.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
Hmm that's a though question... i guess one thing would be to never take music forums too seriously.

Actually, I would advise against posting real names and your ages here as it might throw what's left of your anonymity straight out the window. This is something I feel current and aspiring moderators in particular might want to be careful with.

I might sound a bit paranoid, but security problems do and have happened.

Uhh.. I don't really have one. Electronic stuff I guess? I think I listen to electronic stuff most, so yeah.

How long have you been a member?
Coming up on 2 years.

What made you join a music forum?
I was looking to branch out of what I had already listened to.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?
It seemed neat.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
It's kind of hard to explain. It's pretty intense to be honest. I can't keep still, it will bring up all kinds of images and memories, and can completely change how I feel. That's why I try not to listen to sad music, but I still do.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?
The community and the people here.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
I don't think I've ever had just one certain experience that was interesting. I was surprised to see people ask me for suggestions and stuff though.. I'm not used to that. I'm more used to "what the fuck are you listening to?" or "do u kno ne good tehcno 4 liek.. partys....,, cuz i kno u liek tecnho"

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
Give everything a shot at least once. Except country.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? Plenty of music sections and had some extremely knowledgeable people.
How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? Just depends on what type of music it is. I often times listen to music that's fitting to my mood at that particular time.
Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? I can usually come here and within reading the first page in a thread find myself new tunes.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance? Its positive because you can discuss things with people and usually find open minded people, and have a fairly intelligent conversation with the person or people. How long have you been a member?: about 4 months

What made you join a music forum?: I had a love for music, and none of my friends were as into music as me, so i decided to join a music forum so I could talk to people about music and not feel like a total freak.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?: I read online that this was the biggest music forum on the internet, so i decided to give it a try.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?: Music can make me feel different things, depending on what the song's about and what kind of mood it tries to set. Music means everything to me. It's gotta be in every second of my life, whether Im jamming out on one of my instruments or listening to my MP3 or just listening to the song stuck in my head, there's always music of some sort around me.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?: The members are very...interesting. We have a huge mix of personalities, which is great. And we have tons and tons and TONS of threads about nearly every (good) artist out there.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?: Dont think i've really had one, besides flipping through the Member Bad Pictures Gallery and seeing the drunk photos of everyone (have to say Paloma's were the best!). Not saying you guys arent interesting though, I love you all!

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?: I've learned to be more open-minded about my music. Some of the members have exposed me to some amazing music that I probly would've never even HEARD OF much less listened to.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance: All the members here are great, some are nice, some are mean, but even the meaner ones can be fun to talk to.

How long have you been a member? Four months.

What made you join a music forum?
This is my fifth music-centric forum. I had a need to leave the last one, and found MusicBanter in that search. I joined a music forum in the first place to discuss my favourite artists.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? I did a bit of research, and found MB to be the most knowledgeable and diverse looking community. I wanted to be able to expand my horizons, so MB appeared ideal for this purpose.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? I think most people who are passionate about music would have trouble summing their feelings up in a few words, but I can tell you that music engages me more than any other activity (asides, possibly, from travel).

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? It's an excellent resource with a very good userbase. I haven't made any BFFs yet, but the conversation is worth checking back daily for.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? I've only been here a short time, but possibly the most surprising revelation I've had since joining is that it's possible to be a diverse listener with great taste without being an outwardly judgmental elitist turd.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance? I've found a level of maturity here amongst users that I haven't previously seen in forums. In my past experiences I've found forums to be quite judgmental and cliquey; not very accepting of new contributors. I have not experienced this as a problem here.

What made you join a music forum?

Mainly because I wanted to obtain new music and musical knowledge.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?

It is the most active and seems like the best music forum on the Internet.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?

Music...it's hard to explain but the easiest way to put it, is that music is always there or you. If you are depressed, excited, sad, angry, or happy, you can listen to music and you can really connect to it. It makes life less boring. To me, it simply fills empty holes that I have in my life, if I'm ever alone, which is pretty often, I listen to music and I feel like something or someone is with me, and I can take it wherever I go. Sounds lame, but Music completes my life.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?

Hmmm...I haven't really made an attempt to get to know the folks here at MB, but they are all great people. I am not much of a poster, but the main reason I'm here is to get new music. I'm still young, but I want to hear what I can while I'm still here. MB Members all have a unique taste in music, whether it is mainstream or obscure, you will find a new band that you may or may not like, but that's part of the experience, trying new things. This is what keeps me coming back to MB, I am not much of a contributor, more like a leecher, but with an account.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?

Can't recall to many, but I do owe it to jackhammer for recommending an artist that has slowly become one of my favorite artists, 10ft Ganja Plant. It may not seem like he did much, but to me, it's a pretty big deal, can't thank him enough. It's little things like this that makes forums so special.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?

I came with a playlist of about 400 songs when I joined and it's quadrupled in size since. What I have learned is to not ashamed and simply not care what people think about what you listen to. I have also learned to not bash other peoples tastes, simply because I am not a fan of what they listen to. I used to be one of the "mainstream" sucks type of people, but I have learned to not generalize, and actually listen to it before bashing it. If I still don't like something, I'll simply stay away from it, with some exceptions where I feel there is a need for bashing. But the most important thing I learned here, is to give new things a try, even if you think you are not going to like something, try it, and give it a second listen, because those second listens can be the ones that leaves you obsessed with an artist. MGMT being one of my examples.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?

The virtual world can change your mind, there's just something about a variety of people, varying in age, ethnicity, cultures, and tastes, that can change your opinion about any topic being discussed, hate it or love it, the Internet is a beautiful thing.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? music is the most amazing thing in the world to me, i've always loved rhythm even as a kid i would bang my hands against the wall for a beat. music makes me feel alive, music is the only thing keeping me from going completely insane and killing myself, if i went def i might commit suicide.

How long have you been a member?
About 2 years and 10 months

What made you join a music forum?
I've always loved music but was admittedly very limited in my knowledge and tastes. I wanted more, I wanted something different, but I had no idea where to turn. I knew there were loads of artists and songs out there that I'd never heard of, and I wanted to hear as much as possible. With no one in my immediate surroundings to talk to about branching out, I figured the internet was my best option.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?
Really, I just googled "music forum" and this one was the first result listed. I've never been a member of any other forums, and after joining this one I never felt the need to go anywhere else. Everyone was very welcoming and the mods at the time were amazing and helpful.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
Music and I have a love/hate relationship. Because I have a short attention span, but also feel the need to cram as much new music as possible into my life, it can become overwhelming and I don't give some of it the attention it requires to be truly appreciated. But on those days when I'm feeling empty, it fills the void quite nicely. When I'm filled with rage, it calms me down. When I'm happy, it makes everything seem that much better. And when I'm in the car with someone, listening to folk song, they'd better shut the hell up and listen to the lyrics. When we're listening to metal, they'd better be head-banging or playing air guitar. And when we're listening to pop, they'd better be dancing their ass off in the seat next to me.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?
The blue background, the awesome people, the occasional wave of interesting new members, and my ongoing obsession with expanding my musical boundaries and finding that one album that will blow my mind apart.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
The most interesting thing has been the friendships I've developed and cultivated with members on and away from the forum. Being a mod is pretty trippy too.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
Don't take the internet (or yourself) so seriously. When it comes to music (or anything really), admit to what you like, own it, live it. Haters gonna hate.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
There are some bitchy people here who should calm down...but I guess that's not much different than real life huh? Other than that it's all good.

What made you join a music forum?
I was just looking for a place to talk about music and to learn what's out there. It's worked so far :)

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? It just seems much more welcoming than other music forums. Members are also happy to recommend you bands or genres when you ask (i.e. in the various recommendation threads).

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? Well I'm a music major in university, so music means a lot to me. I play several instruments (flute is my main one), and each time I play an instrument it really makes me feel good. Music in general, whether playing it or listening to it, always brings my spirits up if I'm feeling down.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? I like the range of different topics being discussed here, music and all other non-music topics. MB also has a superb mod team that work hard to keep this place running.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? I think my experience here has been pretty low-key. Not much drama happening in regards to me. Which may or may not be a good thing, I don't know.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? I've learned that it's okay to listen to something new, and that it's okay if you don't like it.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance? I've really only had positive experiences on MB. The main thing is that I've never gotten into serious arguments with any members. There is good debate and discussion happening, which I like.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
Music is something that fullfills me in someway. It's quite hard to explain it but the way I see it music is a huge part of who I am and it's hard to imagine life without it. I play in a band and listen to alot of music. I also talk about music nonstop which can annoy some people but I'm fortunate to have friends who are just like me when it comes to talking about music.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? It's pretty much the other forum users. How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? Music makes me feel something I can't explain. When I play it, I'm engulfed, when I listen I'm enveloped. It's everything to me when I open my heart to it.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? There are always new people to meet and there is always new music to talk about.

What made you join a music forum? Because I am obsessed with music and learning about new groups.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?

I have gone through so many different phases that Music Banter really appealed to me. Having so many sub genres, a large amount of members with various tastes and musical knowledge really impressed me. I like the atmosphere too.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?

Music is the essence of all being. Its what takes you away from being in any situation. No matter what emotion I feel there is always music to accommodate it. It's what inspires me, what drives me, I live it. Creatively it is my mothers milk.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?

The members for sure. Without great people to communicate with what would be the point? I don't want to discuss music with pretentious *******s.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?

My conflicts with Bungalow was certainly interesting. But in general the approving responses from the male community definitely is a perk.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?

That it's not all about what other people think about certain music. I've learned to be confident in my music tastes and not worry about others approval. What I've taken away is some incredible recommendations that have blown my ears/mind.

How long have you been a member?

What made you join a music forum?

I was searching for something... I think it was a Zuehl band of some variety. Wasn't Bondage Fruit, or Dun... I forget which one. Any rate, I found it hosted in the Avant Garde forum. Now, it was a dead link, but I looked over the forum a bit, and found that the Avant-Garde forum contained people who actually had knowledge of Avant Garde beyond "DAT A PATTON KNOCKOF!!!", and I signed up. Made a topic about Bondage Fruit, and a few things, slow going, but eventually I started looking at the non-Avant Garde forums, joining in the discussion, and finding myself a regular.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?

It's the only music community I'm really actively a part of.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?

Music is the closest I'll get to zen.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?

Most of the forums I've been to the past are cluttered with close minded morons when it comes to music. Too many off the "Dur... dats just noizee!!" or "Oh... I like everything... I really only like mindless top 40s garbage, but I'm too afraid of confrontation to admit it" people. They didn't like my ability to debate music, especially since I represented opinions beyond the spoon-fed history of rock n' roll norm. Music Banter seems fairly open to my opinions, and I'll get arguments, and I'll argue back, but it's never personal, or taken that way.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?

Lots of small ones, nothing noteworthy.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?

There are good music communities out there. Of people who can take arguments without throwing fits of their favorites being insulted. I've met people who are so uptight about their music that they will take it personally if you criticize. Sad thing is, these are often the people with extremely limited genre tastes, and will never spend the effort to actually listen to things, only whatever fits their self chosen demographic. Music Banter, however, does a great job of keeping an eclectic mix of personalities, and opinions. You basically can see that depending on which subforum you're at, each is a different subcommunity, it's like many many music communities in one.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?

Here they yet people say what they need to say, and don't use gang mentality to intimidate people out of their opinions. I have no negative experiences.
