Or at least were. Been so long since I actually bought one of them they're might not even be around anymore for all I know.

Hard and stale is a good description of Pork Scratchings, which are fried pieces of pig skin, sold in British pubs. At least it`s a natural product - you can tell because they still have bits of pig-hair sticking out of them.
