I asked the same question.

If people agree with you then chances are the member you nominated will make the shortlist and if your nomination was ultimately in vain then you still get a chance to vote in the final round.

Its when people are too easily swayed by the nominations of others or change their vote in the final round that it becomes unfair but personally I dont see why anybody would do either of those things.

Why did nobody bring this up in the last thread then? I put the rules up in that one too.

The way I'm doing it is the way it was done last year.

Yeah, but I remember all the ones before that were just noms counted as votes, no rounds or anything. I don't mind either way really, it's not a big deal. I guess having the whole nomination process might make other members aware of someone who they didn't immediately think of who they might realise they want to vote for...

Ah well if Tore was running it last year that explains a lot.

I mean no disrespect to Tore but I do think he has a tendency to over complicate things sometimes & make them about statistics, and perhaps miss the point of what made something good in the first place. In this case having a bit of fun & giving a shout out to the people you think deserve it.

And usually I don't spend a great deal of time on here from early to mid December so that'll be why I didn't say anything earlier.

My nominations:

Most Underrated Poster - Cardboard Adolescent
Smartest poster - Tore. Science god!
Most Missed Poster - Boo boo
Best Journal - Flower Child's. But since she's not a member anymore (sigh), my other choice is Crash Override's journal because Crash puts a lot of thought and information in his write-ups. I also like Cardboard Adolescent's...so philosophical and contemplative.
Biggest Emotion Expresser - Paloma. I like people who show their emotions ("drama") and I would never call anyone a "whore," a term I abhor, so I am renaming this "emotion expresser," which I feel is a GOOD thing. My vote goes to Paloma because you always know how she feels. She confronts what bothers her. Other people may think it is drama. I feel it is emotional honesty.
Sexiest Member (male) - Freebase Dali, and he has the bad boy/smart nerd/cynical but innocent personality to match.
Sexiest Member (female) - VeggieLover, of the many faces and moods. She hasn't been around much, but her pictures still are!
Best argumentalist - Tore. Always calm, always patient, always logical, he cuts cleanly to the core issues in arguments. He makes me feel thankful I'm human because he is such a decent one.
Worst argumentalist - For some reason TheCunningStunt comes to mind, because I can't really remember him saying much besides "Tw*t."
Best Writer - MoonlitSunshine. I follow his thoughts and their meanderings perfectly. He's entertaining and honest. And he writes almost as much as I do!
Biggest music nerd - Urban Hatemonger, of course: the member who's most knowledgeable about music. Anyone with over 70,000 mp3s knows music. I think of him as permanently fused to an ipod.
Funniest member - Conan. He has been spreading amusement for many months here, disappearing briefly, emerging as someone else, and then finally returning as Conan The Unforgettable! I also fondly remember StoryMilo's "mathturbation" joke...I just haven't seen him around as much as Conan. Zaqarbal's posts are often very funny and clever, too, and make me chuckle quite a bit...except for that hot dog one. Bad Zaqarbal! Bad bad bad!!!!
Angriest member - Big3. At least, he *used* to be the bitterest member, a cynic who often responds with hostility and bitterness towards new and old members. He's going soft though, I think. Must be age.
Nicest member - AwwSugar. Sweet, sweet, sweet Sugar!! The kindest member, always makes an effort to treat people well, with respect, and to be nice. She's always greeting people. She jokes with me. She calls me bitch. Ha ha...ha.....heh. :/ ()
Biggest Troll - Terrible Lizzy. Mostly I'm just getting retribution because the dude has never said a civil thing to me in all my time here, even though I wrote a song for his former avatar, that delightful fuzzy lizard creature! (Swoon!)
Biggest contributor - ? Golly, I don't know. I like the combination of all of you together. It is hard for me to pick out just one member who's posts and threads have contributed the most to the overall quality of the site in 2010.
Most Improved Member - ?
Most virtuosic - Freebase Dali. Great musician. I admire his work very much.
Best avatar - Jackhammer's "Pink Freud." Ha ha ha!
Moderator of the Year - Freebase Dali. As soon as he was modded, he started implementing his improvement plans. It was fun to watch his enthusiasm.
Best new 2010 member - Pedestrian. I enjoy Pedestrian's concise, thought-provoking posts.
Member of the Year 2010 - Conan. Even-tempered, enthusiastic, funny, and posts all over the board. One of the few people who regularly offers constructive, useful criticism in the songwriting section.
Most Mainstream Music Taste - Vanilla. I know you like more than just Gaga, but I can't forget that you like her so very much!
Most Obscure Music Taste - Urban Hatemonger. I don't even know if some of the music he listens to *is* music!
Best Thread Starter - Vanilla. This undercover feminist starts a lot of threads that interest me.
Best Mediator - Mojopinuk. He steps in to mediate and keep threads on track fairly frequently and tries to get people to communicate respectfully with each other.

I definitely have a mainstream taste in music, but I think people are forgetting that I don't actually listen to much pop. I like bands like the Stones, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Crystal Castles, Daft Punk, The Bloody Beetroots. Technically they are all mainstream selling groups. That is why I agree with my numerous nominations.

If you check out my journal, you'll notice most artist's I post in there are not mainstream. Except Shapeshifter. New Zealand has a great underground DnB scene.

I just don't know enough about music to know who is mainstream or not! But I do know you listen to more than Gaga.

People on here can be quite critical of it. But boo hoo to them, I'm not going to pass up on listening to groups like the Stones just because they are super famous.

Congratulations on reaching 1000 posts!

I think you see a feminist in me don't you?
