The Official Quote Thread
Got any quotes you absolutely love? I think each week I'm going to choose quote themes.
This week, it can be quotes about getting through hard times, beating the odds. If you don't want to follow a theme that's fine, but it will make the thread more lively if it's not exhausted too quickly. It can be from anything, book, movie, friend, family, celebrity, etc... My quote: "Sadness is a season, it will pass." - Power of One |
I've got tons of them but here is one that keeps to the theme you have picked out this week.
“If we're ever gonna see a rainbow we have to stand a little rain (from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Stand A Little Rain” lyrics by Don Schlitz, Donny Lowery) |
"Only two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the former."
Albert Einstein |
"I don't care if people hate my guts; I assume most of them do. The important question is whether they are in a position to do anything about it."
- William S Burroughs "You will always be fond of me. I represent to you all the sins you never had the courage to commit." -Oscar Wilde in the Picture of Dorian Gray |
You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams. -Dr. Suess

" I think people should mate for life, like pidgeons or Catholics"-Woody Allen

I'll post a sonnet! :D I'm going above and beyond! I'm a big poetryface
"If this be love, to draw a weary breath, To paint on floods till the shore cry to th'air; With downward looks still reading on the earth. These sad memorials of my love's despair; If this be love, to war against my soul, Lie down to wail, rise up to sigh and grieve, The never-resting stone of care to roll, Still to complain my griefs, whilst none relieve; If this be love, to clothe me with dark thoughts, Haunting untrodden paths to wail apart, My pleasures horror, music tragic notes, Tears in mine eyes and sorrow at my heart; If this be love, to live a living death, Then do I love, and draw this weary breath." Samuel Daniel (1562-1619) |
"If it were not for quotations, conversation between gentlemen would consist of an endless succession of 'what-ho's" - PG Wodehouse
Basically, I love quotations and this thread . On life, sadness and all that mother jazz, this one seems to suit my mood at present - "To make a goal of comfort or happiness has never appealed to me; a system of ethics built on this basis would be sufficient only for a herd of cattle" - Einstein |
"It is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail."--Abraham Maslow

Quote:
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” - Dr. Seuss. "You'd better keep it in check or you'll end up a wreck and you'll never wake up" - Brian Molko of Placebo, the lyrics to "Narcoleptic". |
