Also "The Game" is an example of what a bunch of 14 year old boys who have masturbated too much that day and therefore have to do other things on the internet come up with.
the concept of "The Game" started many a years ago on image boards and such and became viral, therefore became a meme. It is one of the oldest memes in internet terms that exist. There is a stigma associate with "The Game" however, because it is way way way way overused-often by people who are just discovering internet culture and trying desperately to seem in touch with the current trends; these people are referred to as new***s. Mentioning "The Game" is the equivalent of name dropping bands such as "Girl Talk" and "Pretty Lights" in front of a bunch of hipster kids as the "new, awesome thing" in attempts to be cool. *Citation: I mod video games and belong to many other forums and therefore spent a disgusting amount of time on the internets.

It may have resurfaced via an internet meme but it's not where it originated. It's a psycho-social activity/challenge that predates internet popularity.
My sisters who are in their thirties had a chuckle when I mentioned the game because they used to joke about it when they were in high school about 15 years ago and they didn't get it off the internet... |

Yea, that's what I figured. It's weird. Makes no sense to me to use almost twice as many syllables than required to just say "by the way" but whatev

It's a novelty, sometimes I go out of my way for comic effect.
