I just read this hilarious New York Times article that sounds like a scene from a movie. The only unmovie-like part is the fact that he got arrested. Check it out:

Quote:
On Monday, on the tarmac at Kennedy International Airport, a JetBlue attendant named Steven Slater decided he had had enough, the authorities said.

After a dispute with a passenger who stood to fetch luggage too soon on a full flight just in from Pittsburgh, Mr. Slater, 38 and a career flight attendant, got on the public-address intercom and let loose a string of invective.

Then, the authorities said, he pulled the lever that activates the emergency-evacuation chute and slid down, making a dramatic exit not only from the plane but, one imagines, also from his airline career.

On his way out the door, he paused to grab a beer from the beverage cart. Then he ran to the employee parking lot and drove off, the authorities said.

(Read the rest here.)
Oh, and this is what he looks like:

I had read that the rant was started because the guy getting his luggage whacked the flight attendant in the head on purpose. Either way that's gotta be one of the most epic ways to quit your job, I mean it's just so unique.

I don't know if it was intentional or not but, yeah, the article mentions him getting hit in the head with the luggage:

Quote:
One passenger stood up to retrieve belongings from the overhead compartment before the crew had given permission. Mr. Slater instructed the person to remain seated. The passenger defied him. Mr. Slater reached the passenger just as the person was pulling down the luggage, which struck Mr. Slater in the head.

Mr. Slater asked for an apology. The passenger instead cursed at him. Mr. Slater got on the plane’s public-address system and cursed out the passenger for all to hear. Then, after declaring that 20 years in the airline industry was enough, he blurted out, “It’s been great!” He activated the inflatable evacuation slide at a service exit and left the world of flight attending behind.
I love the way this article is written, by the way. The reporter clearly thought the story was as hilarious as I do.

Apparently the passenger he was dealing with wasn't following any of the rules (she had an oversized carry-on, wasn't sitting when she should have been, etc), so now she's being hit with a $25,000 fine. OUCH! But whether this episode was her fault or not still doesn't excuse this guy's ridiculous behaviour. He got pushed to the brink and handled it badly. I heard this on TV just this morning so I don't know if it's actually true or just an allegation.

My cousin is a bartender in NYC and just had a few drinks with this guy yesterday. He said he treated the Man like a rescued POW. I would have done the same.
