I think I must lucky.. IDK I don't really have a heard time finding someone with similar taste in music.. Never have.. I have dated a few guys that liked country and a few that liked rap(but it didn't last long).. I guess a lot of guys like Rock. Music is how me and my boyfriend got together.. He posted some Violent Femmes Lyrics on myspace and I knew them and we started talking from there.. When I met him I felt like I had known him for ever... Even though we were friends on myspace for over a year..

So do you like wine?" lol..

Seriously though, I feel sorry for the poor potential girlfriends of musicians who want to offload all their "projects" on a girl for "opinions", as though it wasn't a date, but a screening.
I know right. I actually don't mind, at first I was flattered that he would even want my opinion... or maybe just a chance to show off, haha. But I like listening to new music and I enjoy his band so it's a pleasure really. Plus it works two ways, he has to put up with hearing my 'music,' i.e. singing badly in the shower/ car/ anywhere else, abusing my bass, and playing terribly on his guitars without asking.

"Yea, that's just a little something I wrote a couple years back. So do you like wine?" - I like it!

One thing that's kind of fascinating to me in this conversation is the number of guys talking about dating women who are really into music. No offense to any of the women present but in my experience women who are as into music as I am are very few and far between. For whatever reason, being a massive music geek seems to be largely a guy thing. When I was out there dating I honestly never was with anyone who was super into music. There were a couple punk/hardcore scenester-types but I don't really think of people like as being into music, they're more into the scene than anything else.

Really? I find this weird. I know plenty of females who are entirely into music, and not just the 'scene.' My band consists of 4 females and we all are heavily into music and play music instruments... does this make us an anomaly then? I never thought of being interested in music as a wholly male thing.

That's really great! I wish I could have run into some women like you when I was out there dating. I do think it's a bit of an anomaly though, or maybe just an anomaly in my country, I don't know. All I know is I don't think I ever met a woman IRL with a music collection the size of mine or who liked to talk about music as much as I do, but I have met plenty of guys who are similar to me in this area.

It's a fairly even split, in my experience.

I know lots of women who are really interested in music, and it's not just "scenester" types either. In fact, one of my best friends (female) is a music major in her second year of college, and a self-professed audiophile with a wall full of vinyl and shockingly diverse music tastes. Likewise, I know plenty of men who could fit within that criteria as well.

Although, what the hell do I know. I'm female, and I suppose I'd qualify as a scenester type myself. :P

That's good to hear. How old is she? Maybe it's a generational thing.

She's 20. It could maybe a generational thing, or it could be that my city has a higher concentration of people who are obsessed with music... I dunno.

Interesting, though.

Could be... except I too have lived in the bay area.

To be honest, I've met very few women who are full blown music geeks and that does make me a little sad. Having said that, I don't consider music taste a requirement for friendships/relationships... after all, one of my mates listens to nothing but power metal, a whole group of my mates worship Dream Theater, and a couple of my other mates are obsessed with Bon Jovi But I suppose compatibility of music habits/tastes can only help... and I'd love to meet a Bowie fanatic of the opposite sex
