I'm dating a boy who plays guitar in a alt/prog band, who understands polyrhythms and odd time signatures, and has a Tool poster above his bed. It's pretty win, apart from when he wants to "show me his new song" in which consequently I am sitting and listening quietly for about 14 minutes.

When I was young I used to be that guy who showed girls his songs. Eventually I realized that it's just kinda douchey and none of them thought it was a great idea. There's an art to showing someone your music... it involves NOT showing it to them, but them listening to it by chance and you, in your nonchalance, mentioning "Yea, that's just a little something I wrote a couple years back. So do you like wine?" lol.. Seriously though, I feel sorry for the poor potential girlfriends of musicians who want to offload all their "projects" on a girl for "opinions", as though it wasn't a date, but a screening. |

And both of the two are in a relationship/not attracted to women. Quote:

I think I must lucky.. IDK I don't really have a heard time finding someone with similar taste in music.. Never have.. I have dated a few guys that liked country and a few that liked rap(but it didn't last long).. I guess a lot of guys like Rock. Music is how me and my boyfriend got together.. He posted some Violent Femmes Lyrics on myspace and I knew them and we started talking from there.. When I met him I felt like I had known him for ever... Even though we were friends on myspace for over a year..

One thing that's kind of fascinating to me in this conversation is the number of guys talking about dating women who are really into music. No offense to any of the women present but in my experience women who are as into music as I am are very few and far between. For whatever reason, being a massive music geek seems to be largely a guy thing. When I was out there dating I honestly never was with anyone who was super into music. There were a couple punk/hardcore scenester-types but I don't really think of people like as being into music, they're more into the scene than anything else.
