I honestly think it's fairly two sided. I mean, Men are really hit hard with the homophobia 'gotta love dat football or yer a ***!!!' philosophy at a very early age.

Which is so ironic since (American) Football is extremely homoerotic.

Terence Hill, as recently confirmed during an interview to an Italian TV talk-show, was offered the role but rejected it because he considered it "too violent". Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.

I've messed up some pretty good friendships because of the fact that I couldn't control myself. I really wish I was genderless, but I'm not going to mutilate myself. The one stereotype I hate is that all guys are "horndogs". I've made a fool of myself, again, and again. I would be so much happier if I could live in space by myself, where I wouldn't have to worry about my feelings bothering people.

This is true, and the male stereotype hasn't eluded me as something unfairly forced in society, but it all comes back to "female qualities" being undesirable.

Honestly, If you hit on a girl who's a friend, as long as you're not slapping her ass or anything line crossing, and as long as she's free, it doesn't really make you a villain. Sounds like you're being oversensitive about some harsh reactions you got.

Let me just say this, you both get into something, and one or both of you deeply regret it. I've had it happen several times, but not all progressed to a certain "stage".

Would someone tell me why males are said to be incapable of having a purely platonic relationship with females? Why are physical encounters always on the table? Are women not worthwhile as friends because of their personalities, rather than their sex appeal?

That's not true at all. I've had female friends I wasn't attracted to sexually.
