Without trying to provoke anything else (though I'm really not sure how much else you could possibly squeeze out of this particular topic!), if I were to list my pressing issues of being a woman, 'having' to shave would be pretty low down.

Personally, I don't give a crap whether ancient Egyptians shaved their body hair or a fat Corporate Pig decided to make money out of it. For me it's a norm that I choose to enjoy like putting on make up for a night out and I'm pretty sure most women feel the same...

Never before have I had to read so deeply into what I considered such a trivial subject
Obviously not so trivial. And I don't know why you put having in quotations, it's obviously a social imperative, regardless whether most women unthinkingly conform to it, and as such very much deserves to be questioned.

Nobody will think any less of you.

I've not washed or styled my hair today. I hardly think L'Oréal or Brylcreem are quaking in their boots at my 'political statement'.
I wish you'd learn to stay quiet when you have nothing intelligent to say.

And you. It's clear to anyone with half a brain that the two issues are not comparable as far as the way society reacts to them.

The two issues aren't comparable? Shaving body hair... they are. Men shave to look presentable, women should shave for the same reason.

You can keep quiet for two or three pages of bollocks feminist issues about shaving , then you start to get quite annoyed with it. So no, I won't stay quiet.

I put 'having' in quotation marks because the last time I mentioned about having to shave my legs (right at the beginning of this topic) I sparked a debate with Vegan on why I felt I had to shave my legs, thus spurring on the great Do women HAVE to shave their legs discussion (which then led to page upon page of leg shaving based debate). Women do not have to shave their legs, but do so because it is a social norm, hence why I use the words 'having to' quite loosely.

Obviously what is a trivial matter regarding gender to me isn't so trivial to others, it would seem. I just thought it somewhat amusing that, in the context of discussions on gender, shaving legs has proved to be the most provoking subject.

EDIT: Also, in some agreement with Cunning Stunt here... This has been a rather exhausting feminist debate... Even I'm starting to wish I was a bloke so I didn't have to defend my right to smooth legs...!

Wow, this pretty much sums up my shaving paradigm as well.

Actually if you were a bloke you'd still have to defend that choice, more so actually.

You shouldn't care what anyone says if it makes you feel better about yourself, it's only Vegan who is making an issue out of this though I admit I keep it going by constantly arguing with her about it.

Nobody can oppress you for having smooth legs, you have short pink hair and tatts I don't think anyone is gonna call you a product of chauvinistic idealism because you shave your legs. No matter what you do Tea someone is always gonna disaprove of how you live your life that's just the way of human existence.

I think I've made my points on the legshaving issue clear enough for everybody to understand and if Vegan still doesn't get it then oh well I tried.

So that being said lets try and find something else to talk about, surely there are OTHER significant issues about gender relations that we can discuss other than f*cking legshaving, right?
