I don't know why this should infuriate me so much, but inherent artifice in literary works that serve no purpose for the enrichment for the work as a whole aside from disgusting self-indulgent egotism...not behind that.

This is a super old post but holy **** yes, I ****ing hate people who act like he is some kind of literary God when his books are so trite. Also if someone lists him as one of their favourite authors I make it a point to avoid them, big red flag for human garbage

I have to say it's pretty hard for me to imagine labelling someone as human garbage for their taste in authors.
