i find abbreviations to be annoying unless you're abreviating 4 or 5 syllables like lab and laboratory, but if you're skipping 1 syllable, i might as well use the full word, like 2-syllable words abbreviated into one? come on, that's pretty pathetic. the way we are going with our language skills, soon we will be writing sloppy too.

Oh, thats bad. I've heard people just say LOL instead of laughing and they sound stupid. But my pet hate is actually just when people say "Oh my God" - its been so overdone I just cant stand it anymore. The sound of it kills kittens.

Hehe i say "Oh my God", sometimes its the perfect phrase for what i want to express. I do however understand the annoyance that can come with overuse of that phrase. Some people say it when theres really no need to.
I feel that alot of people over here, i dont know about in New Zealand, consider it a very American thing to say now. Its not hard to see why either, just watch any American sitcom for more than 30 seconds and you will hear it being used. |

In all fairness, theres nothing really wrong with saying Oh my God. I mean, everyone does. But Christ, it gets soooo irritating when its said for petty situations like "Oh my God, do you like cheese?!" - or whatever, sorry about the cheese, it was the first thing that came to mind. And such. Use it when its needed, not just because you can people.

i hate it when people actually say 'lol' in real life. A while ago my school went through a fad when people kept on saying 'chat', as in "thats so chat!". I still have no idea what it meant exactly, but it was so overused and annoyed the hell out of me. Oh, and I have a group of Chinese friends who try to act all 'cute' and always always use the word 'kawai' for everything. And the word 'pretentious'. I never understood how an artwork or a song could be pretentious. What does it mean?
