Actually, after your second paragraph I'm surprised that you
don't see the the point of light beer. It has roughly the same percentage of alcohol as a lot of other beer (for example Bud Light is 4.2% alcohol while Guinness Daught is 4.0%) but by virtue of its being "light", it's much easier to drink a lot of it than it would be to drink a lot of a heavier beer. Also, in my personal opinion it tastes better but I know most people probably disagree with me on that.
Otherwise, though, I totally hear what you're saying about beer. I have it sometimes but my preferred beverage is bourbon.
