I've learned that there are actually people out there who love music like I do. I was a little skeptical for a while there. Although I'm not sure if that is a good thing since now whenever I meet someone new I judge them more than ever on their taste in music. If people could read my mind they would think I was such a ****.
Here is how meeting someone new goes: "Hi, I'm so and so nice to meet you." "I'm Chris, nice to meet you." "So what are you into?" "I'm pretty obsessed with music..." "Oh what kind of music?" *In my head I am thinking..."Dude...there is no way you will know wtf I am talking about..." My actual response varies according to my mood. Sometimes I feel like name dropping and making the person feel musically retarded...other times I just say everything. If the person can hold a conversation with me they are my new best friend. |

I used to me a ragy mother ****er about stupid people and their stupid music. Keep psuhing yourself and you'll eventually find value in almost everything. Not every band per say, but every style. "The promsied land, my son, you too can achieve its glory" |

But to answer your question, I'm 24. |
What have you tried in country? I know that question gets annoying but I'll link you some youtube's of things I think you'd like if you can tell me
1. What country you heard and thought sucked (and maybe why) & 2. What bands are you into anyhow? |

For the second question...my favorite overall genre is Shoegaze but I also really like chill electronic stuff. Favorite bands are Smashing Pumpkins, Boards of Canada, Cocteau Twins, the Swirlies...stuff like that. You can always check out my lastfm if you are really curious. The main thing I like in my music is atmosphere...I like my music to create a world for me to live in. So...throw me some links I will definitely listen to them. |
Well if you only like atmosphere, there isn't much room to move there. Does any other genre besides those give you atmosphere? (if so I think theres a misunderstanding).
Is there atmospheric rap? Is there atmospheric reggae? Maybe there is but I'll need examples. Atmospheric country is mostly going to land you in middle-Wilco-land but based on examples I'll know better. |
It's just a preference...I don't restrict myself to it. I do like Wilco, though, if that tells you something. If you can just recommend me something that isn't some redneck cliche and has a little bit more substance than just a twangy guitar then there is hope.

I've certainly changed a lot since joining MB. When i first joined all i really listened to at the time were metal bands like Iron Maiden, Children Of Bodom, Slayer etc, and the usual mainstream rock stuff like Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Foo Fighters. The Cure were probably the most adventurous my music taste got. I disliked dance music and most electronic music but that has since changed a lot. Gradually over time my music taste changed and i became more open to other styles of music. I got into more underground music, music genres i didn't even know existed like shoegaze or trip-hop, bands i already knew but i never thought i'd get into like Radiohead and Massive Attack. Really i thought i'd never get into Radiohead.
I've found myself looking for other qualities in music. Before i was mostly just looking for killer riffs and something to rock out to, but now i look for certain feelings music invokes such as melancholy, relaxation, pure joy or even plain misery, i listen out for different or unusual textures in the music or different atmospheres, and i've learned to pay attention to lyrics at bit more and discover their true meaning. But it's not just musicbanter that has changed me, real life experiences in the past few years have played a big part such as going to college and meeting new friends who are into different types of music. |
