Cantona was a pleasure to watch. United were a pleasure to watch back then. I used to love watching them play, very much as i have with Arsenal in recent years. Cantona was a huge part of what made them so entertaining to watch i think and it just wasnt the same when he wasnt there. United had such a good squad at that time. Schmeichel in goal, Keane, Ince, Kanchelskis, Hughes, Irwin etc. Also Bruce & Pallister were as solid an English centre half partnership as i think this leagues ever seen and of course they had the likes of Giggs, the Nevilles, Scholes, Butt and Beckham coming through the ranks. No wonder they were unbeatable.

Good man for following them :thumb: Irwin was a true gentleman, Keano always had that edge which made him a great player. I think he's still bitter about what happened. He shouldn't have gone to Celtic, even though it was an early dream, he belonged at United until he decided to hang up his boots. :(

In the 1992–93 Giggs wasn't coming through the ranks, he WAS the left winger. The footage of the Norwich game with him on one wing and Kanchelskis on the other bombing forward was just brilliant to watch. I would've been 2 when that season took place. :(

Really was a golden era probably never to be seen again, especially with so many English, Irish and welsh in the side! Can't believe I left Schmeichel out, bring him in for cantona and have him 2nd. Kanchelskis to this day remains the quickest player on the ball I've ever seen, such blistering runs. Agree with your comment on Brucey and Pallister 100%

Bruce, without doubt the best Englishman to never play for his country. It mystifies me to this day.

Bruce and Pallister would have done the same job for their country together, i have no doubt. But Arsenal made that English back four their own. If it hadnt been for Adams and Keown, they probably would have gotten the chance.

As for saying those players were coming through the ranks, i know they already had but im just referring to the few seasons in the early to mid nineties where they quickly all held down first team starts. Giggs was out on your left wing, yes but so was Lee Sharpe. Butt was getting games in the middle but so were Ince and Keane. All of those i mentioned though managed to quickly become regulars which i always felt was key to Man Uniteds success during those years because all of a sudden not only did you have a good squad and were bringing in decent players from outside, but you were producing world class players from your ranks at the same time. That squad was so impressive.

I think that's part of the problem with the squad at the moment, in times gone by we've had players that you look at and thing woah, they're gonna be world class.

The only two players from our youth I really rate are Rafael and Macheda. I think this season really is decision time for Fergie, there's talks of a bit of a clear out which I think is well needed. Berbatov Carrick and Anderson are the suspects. A new strikers an Modric to replace them would be great. Transfer muppetry suggests a winger, I'd hate that. It'd stop Nani's great progress.
