My favourite album is a toss-up between Bjork's Vespertine, Tool's Aenima, and Dave Matthews' Groo Grux King. these are favourites because they are masterpieces in my mind, and also fall into the spectrum of music that i thoroughly enjoy. it should be said that if you asked me this in a week, i might give a similar but different answer.
My favourite lyric is "as above, so below, and beyond, i imagine." 'as above so below' is a phrase used to describe the holographic nature of the reality, wherein the whole is represented fully in even it's tiniest constituents. My first gig was at the grades 7&8 spring dance at my elementary school. it was after dark, so it counted. The book that changed me... every book changes me. each one sheds light on the next stage in my perception. My favourite painting is also starry night. lame, i know. but it's pretty incredible. My style icon is my lack of cash and pragmatic spending. My favourite place is probably in front of a well-tuned grand piano, possibly under the influence of psychedelic drugs. My favourite album artwork is Susumu Yokota's Grinning Cat cover: ... cuz it's simple. i don't have an idol. alter ego? Last edited by P A N; 05-01-2010 at 02:14 AM. |

My favourite album
The Joshua Tree My favourite lyric "Loneliness is a place so empty without you..." (Lady Blue, Bunbury). My first gig A meaningless local band which name I can't remember. The book that changed me A compilation of Quevedo's works. I had never read such a great Literature. My favourite painting The Triumph of Bacchus (a.k.a. The Drunks) by Velázquez, or how to depict the most divine and the most human, together in the same painting: My style icon If I were rich, a metrosexual one. But I'm poor. My favourite place I haven't traveled so much, but I'd say Paris. My favourite album artwork Into the Labyrinth (Dead Can Dance). A picture is worth a thousand words: My idol Casanova, Warren Beatty, Hugh Hefner and other great "connoissers" of the human nature (at least the most important half of it). My alter ego Still unknown.

My favourite album
In the Heart Of the Moon by Ali Farka Touré and Toumani Diabaté, head and shoulders above everything else I've ever heard. My favourite lyric This verse from Nick Cave's As I Sat Sadly By Her Side... Quote:
The Hives at Brixton Academy, 2000/2001 (whatever year it was when Your New Favourite Band came out). The book that changed me My favourite painting Arnold Böcklin's Island Of the Dead, 1880 My style icon Meh. Don't really have one. My favourite place My bed. My favourite album artwork My idol Probably David Mamet. The way that man manages to make something spectacular out of a mundane-seeming concept is jus amazing. My alter ego It's a cliche, but I'll drop a quick mention of my drunk self here, for reasons I'll keep to myself |

Okay...
My favourite album: It's tough to say for sure... Probably "Lateralus" by Tool, for several reasons, the biggest being the whole Fibonacci sequence thing it's got going on. The album is well thought out, constructed, and produced. Probably the thing that sold me on the album is the whole "Holy Gift" theory it has surrounding it. The album is a puzzle and Tool hands it to us to decode. It's a great follow up to Aenima and really forces the listener to think for himself and figure the album out. So it's either that or "Dark Side of the Moon." I grew up listening to and playing songs off this album. I just love the flow of the album. What can I say? It's a masterpiece. My favourite lyric: I'm not sure that I have a favorite lyric, but here's oneI really like: "But a certain sign of grace is this From a broken earth flowers come up Pushing through the dirt" - David Crowder*Band My first gig: Played: My 7th Grade Talent Show. A friend and I played "I Should Have Known Better" by the Beatles. Seen: I don't know... I think it was a festival with The Cross Movement, David Crowder*Band, and Third Day. The book that changed me: Besides the Bible? That's really the only book that changed me. But I suppose some of the books that changed what I thought about literature would be To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, and The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini (probably my favorite book). I also love Shakespeare and Poe, but Shakespeare wrote plays and Poe short stories, so I guess they don't really count. There are more, but those are probably the top three. My favourite painting: Here's one of my favorites: "View from Mount Holyoke Northampton Massachusetts after a Thunderstorm" by Thomas Cole, 1836 I just love the contrast. My style icon: I really don't have any style. I just do what I want. My favourite place: Anywhere peaceful, preferably on a mountain somewhere not too cold. My favourite album artwork: I don't have an absolute favorite, but here's one I really like: Pink Floyd's "Obscured by Clouds" My idol: I don't idolize people. There are certain people I know that I really look up to, but no idols. My alter ego: Dr. Jekyll
So that's me in a nutshell, apparently. I think I only gave two definitive answers, one of which was a joke. |

My favorite album:
Pink Floyd - Animals My favorite lyric You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to So that when they turn their backs on you You'll get the chance to put the knife in My first gig KISS w/Skid Row The book that changed me Not quite sure which one to pick. But Cormac McCarthy's The Road left me with a feeling no other book did before. My favorite painting Don't have one My style icon Don't really have a style My favorite place Anyplace quiet My favorite album artwork Voivod - War and Pain My idol I don't idolize people My alter ego Not quite sure |

My favourite album
I don't have one of all time, latelt I've been listening to a lot of Pavement though. Mostly Slanted and Enchanted and Crooked Rain. My favourite lyric Probably one from an operation Ivy song. Vulnerability has a good message. My first gig The Toasters, Voodoo Glow Skulls and Deal's Gone Bad last November. The book that changed me I haven't really been changed by a book yet although after finishing them for a few days I feel like they have. I guess when I read The Outsiders in like 6th grade it was a big deal. Reading Cat's Cradle now and its shaping up to be pretty good and confusing. COnfusing in the sense that I don't know as to what kind of a motive the author would have to write a book like it is. My favourite painting idk My style icon Milo Aukerman is pretty cool looking My favourite place the room i'mm in now. especially when it rains and its late at night. My favourite album artwork or My idol dont really have one anymore. My alter ego When i get around parents I tend to talk in a different more articulate voice. My favourite album:
Nirvana - In Utero The first album I ever really "got". I've listened it to death but I could still put it on right now and enjoy it. My favourite lyric: "I act like shit don't phase me Inside it drives me crazy My insecurities could eat me alive But when I see my baby Suddenly I'm not crazy It all makes sense when I look into her eyes." - Eminem from Halie's Song. My first gig: ... there were quite a few bands on the bill, I don't really remember who they were The book that changed me: Ripley's Believe it or Not! My favourite painting: Probably my current avatar, "untitled skull" by Jean-Michel Basqiuat. My style icon: B-Rabbit from the movie 8 Mile. My favourite place: right here in the city. My favourite album artwork: My idol: Disclaimer Conan in no way, shape, or form advocates or supports the use of puns or "wordplay". Nor does he in any capacity find Adam Lambert attractive "man meat"... okay maybe just a little. He still doesn't look up to the mofo. Conan is also not responsible to damage caused to properties belonging to the consumer. This post should be treated as entertainment, it does not accurately portray the views or opinions as expressed by him or any one at Conan Inc. or it's parent company ConCon International. My alter ego: Sonace I guess, heh. Last edited by someonecompletelyrandom; 05-02-2010 at 04:50 PM. |

Alright, sure. I'll give it a shot
My favourite album ...And immediately I have no idea how to answer. I'm not particularly committed to any favorite for very long, if only because I thrive on variety. If I had to pick a strong contender or three, though, I'd probably say Change by The Dismemberment Plan, All Hail West Texas by The Mountain Goats and Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot by Sparklehorse. Both of these are albums that hit me at exactly the right moment in my life and are in that category where I can't even look at them critically anymore, simply because I can't imagine my life without them. The reason I'm picking those three is, because of the albums that do that, they don't just take me back to a particular time/place, but every time I put them on, I feel like they connect on that same level with whatever's going on currently. My favourite lyric This is even more impossible. The first thing that leaps to mind, and an apt self-description, is "I am healthy, I am whole, but I have poor impulse control and I want to go home, but I am home." (The Mountain Goats, "Riches & Wonders") My first gig Belle & Sebastian and Sleater-Kinney in Washington D.C. Weird, weird combination of bands, but fun. The book that changed me Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson. It's about so many beautiful things, observing and contextualizing experiences and understanding who people are and who you, yourself, are. And it's all so beautifully written, lyrical and kind of understated. It gets me every time I read it, which has been a few times now. My favourite painting I dunno if I feel knowledgeable enough about art to really zero in on one. I really, really love Edward Hopper generally, though, like this one. And Magritte's The Lovers leaps out at me as well. My style icon *snort* Lord, I don't know. If I see an outfit I particularly like, I might say something about it, but I don't really pay that much attention to what any particular person wears. About 85% of the time, I'm the jeans/thrift-store t-shirt/maybe a cut over-or-under shirt type and that's the extent to which I think about such things. My favourite place In day-to-day terms, my boyfriend's house in Portland. It's kind of the hub of a weird social circle and not unlike living an interactive sitcom--the kind of place people just sort of gravitate to, full of a lot of dynamic personalities (4 people live there, about 7 or 8 more [me included] are there at least a couple nights a week, about 15 others show up regularly from time to time), but relatively little drama, especially for that many people (and that much booze). In broader terms, I like the American northwest as a whole. My favourite album artwork There are a couple I can think of... This one, because it takes you a minute to realize what's interesting about it and I like the blue color palate. This one (although I like the color version on the LP more, I can't find a decent version of it--this is the best I've got). This one made me laugh really hard for a minute and then I realized how perfectly it captures the feel of what's within... I could go on for a while on this list, actually. My idol I try to avoid idolizing--it's dehumanizing. And a list of people I respect would take too long. My alter ego I AM the alter ego.
