I don't even think I could begin to explain but there are so many references to film, tv and pop culture in general. Even certain scenes, certain lines that you wouldn't think twice about are actually lifted from films. On the DVD's you can turn on the Homage-ometer in the subtitles menu that lists them all and it's staggering really.
