It was so well written, beautifully directed. It helps if you are a bit of a film nerd because of the sheer volume of references but it all makes sense and is enjoyable even if you don't get the references.
The cast and crew themselves have said that they wanted to distance themselves from the current trend of situaton comedy (which was attractive 20 somethings shagging each other pretty much) and they definitely succeeded in making something a little more original, a little more challengng. If you dont like Shaun of the Dead then it might not be for you (that film was actually born out of an episode of Spaced) but i would definitely gve it a go sometime. It could even be on 4oD. |

Never seen Shaun Of The Dead.. just never bothered with it. I really should get round to it. I have friends that say I'm a massive film nerd, but compared to a few on here I'm nothing.. so I don't really know. I refuse to watch Chinese and other foreign films that have subtitles. Narrow minded and ignorant but meh, they aren't for me.
I might give Spaced a try if you think it's even up there with The Office, never mind better. |

Yeah i'd at least give it a try. In terms of British sitcoms i'd put Spaced and Black Books right up there with or ahead of The Office. Gervais and Merchant managed to achieve alot of the things that Spaced did in a way. In terms of being slightly off beat, away from the norm somewhat, not very conventional and at times some great directon and scripts.
Alot of people dismiss The Office because Gervais is "annoying" but completely overlook other aspects of it, alongwith the fact that he is supposed to be annoying. |
