I think slightly is the word .. It was worse than a hangover and it's lasted for a week! I'm finally hungry again now, though.

I checked with my friends from back home to see if any of them had experienced something similar. Some had, it seems I'm not the only one who's had a brush with alcohol dependency and withdrawal .. Still, starting on improving my life from today.

It is/was a problem with alcohol withdrawal, not a hangover.

Not saying I'm an alcoholic, but if I was and had been drinking regularly, would you expect me to be fine after a day or two after going cold turkey?

So what's the difference between alcohol withdrawal and a hangover then?

Alcohol withdrawal is something that happens when your sentral nervous system has gotten used to functioning on alcohol and then you don't get any or stop drinking. There's a biochemical difference which is quite important. For people who have been alcoholics for years, going cold turkey may cause delirium and seizures and can even kill.

So, withdrawal symptoms is you feeling like **** because you don't have alcohol in your body when you are to some extent dependent on alcohol. Hangover is usually a catch-all term for whatever makes you feel like crap the day after getting drunk.

Which is usually caused by dehydration.

A friend of mines has a parent that's been an alcoholic for a large number of years and if their parent doesn't have any alcohol for a certain amount of time they have seizure, really really bad ones. It's resulted in many hospital trips and they banged their head off a few kerbs through having seizures in the street. It's pretty horrid.

Ouch, that is pretty horrid And this parent is able to function normally as long as he or she gets alcohol?

Yeah, they're absolutely normal as long as they can drink the alcohol. They could get weaned off alcohol but the medication needed to be taken can't be taken if alcohol is being drank, but the withdrawal symptoms are so bad they can't go cold turkey for the tablets to be taken. its a vicious circle.
