Stories about your kids
Parents-
I love reading stories about other peoples' kids. They always give me a good laugh, or make me thankful I have boys, not girls, ha. So let's hear 'em! Any story you have 'bout your kids, I want to hear 'em! Here's a couple of my own: A good, old friend of mine played double bass for 30 some odd years. Well, here recently, he retired. And he knew that next year, I'll have two double bass players, and only one double bass. So he donated his d. bass to me, for my music department at my high school. I propped it up in a corner, almost as soon as you walk in the door. My youngest, Bobby walked around the corner, took off his coat, like he normally does, y'know. Then he saw the bass propped up in the corner and he screams like he's seen a ghost. My older two sons are Jeremy (Jer for short) and Justin. They both participate in the Oakmont Regional High School Marching Band. Their high school and mine are big football rivals. So we always have a football game on Thanksgiving day. It's a healthy rival, especially for the bands. We hosted this past year, and the visiting band always plays their half time first. Jer was carrying a prop onto the field for their half time, he put it down, and he was running to get to his starting position. He slipped in the mud, and kinda glided on his feet for a few feet. His arse hit the ground and he was back up in a flash.

Every so often my nephew watches videos with me. I played for him a few Coldplay videos and he just loved them. He's only 3 y/o so he comes up with his own names, "Life In Technicolor ii" he calls "puppets," he even sings along with the song; "Strawberry Swing" is called "Superman." I made the mistake of showing him The Beastie Boys "Intergalactic" because he made play that video a half a dozen times or more. He loves the battles between the robot and the monster at the end at the end of the video and describe what he sees with his own dialogue and sound effects, and sometimes acts it out.
My sister said he had her fustrated one day trying to understand what he meant by "robots," "puppets," and "superman." She said she had no idea what he meant I said oh they're what he calls the music videos I show him. And what in the world was I showing him. I told his grandmom how to find the vidoes when she babysits him, she said she thought it was cute and was amazed that he sang along with Coldplay. Trying to find something new for him that I thought he would think is cute, I played Bat for Lashes 'What's a Girl to Do?' for him. He was perfectly ok with with Natasha Khan. In the video there are these guys wearing animal masks riding on BMX bikes behind Natasha. When they pop out he took onle look at the rabbit and said it was scary so I turned it off immediately for him. It hadn't dawn on me that it might be scary to him, then I remember what my sister said that he laughed hysterically at the Easter Bunny when he first saw it, but was afraid to get close to have his picture taken with the Easter Bunny. So I felt bad for him. I thought he left the room and I went back to watching my music videos, and then I hear this little voice, I looked and didn't see anyone then I hear "ok now show rabbit" "show rabbit ok" and I notice this voice was coming behind the chair, I so oblidge him and I hear a little voice coming from behind the chair "thanks" I thought it was adorable that hid behind the chair and and talked asked over and over "do you see rabbit?" 'no', "do you see rabbit?" 'no' "do you see rabbit?" 'yes' and then a little later he mustered a enough courage to came out from behind the chair and sat on my lap "that rabbit's scarry, huh?" so I said 'Don't worry I'll protect you.' Then he went on "rabbit yada yada yada scary huh? yada yada yada rabbit" I could tell his attitude towards the rabbit on the BMX bike changed by how he was talking about it. The reason I tell that story is because I am amazed at such a young age how my little nephew, in stages took steps to overcome his fear. It was if he had it all planned out, like hiding behind a chair for protection when asking to play the song, and when he was ready come out to have another look, armed with his imaginary "Ghostbuster" laser (which is usually a wooden spoon or a plastic hanger) as another line of protection, and then talk about it in his own way how he felt about it.

Don't you just love kids? What that was, was a very simple version of happens when you face your fears. All a fear is is a pieace of False Evidence Assumed (to be) Real. His mind was working out for it's self that the bunny wouldn't hurt him, and that you were there.
