From what I know, Spotify isn't available in North America yet so they probably would know what you're trying to do. I know that if you go on their website to try and get a premium membership the proper way, it'll just say "not available in your country yet" or something. People with memberships can listen to Spotify anywhere in the world (apparently), so maybe you need a credit card that's based in a country where the service is available? I don't even know if you can do that.
