Winter: yeah pretty mild can drop to about 4C overnight occasionally, but mostly around 10C. Hottest time is 1st quarter, we've had 47C days in the middle of Feb and heat waves (5 or more days over 38C) in March. NYE was 41C.

Snow occurs in Victoria and NSW and the ACT.

I may have missed somewhere it snows. I think snow once fell n mount Lofty in SA but it is very very rare.

Holy crap that's hot! Is it humid there?

Heh. I love that you and I had basically the exact same reaction to that.

This one's mainly directed to the english-speaking part of the community. I suppose most of you know about those peculiar letters in the swedish alphabet, Å Ä Ö, but do you know how they are pronounced? I'm under the impression that a lot of non-swedes see them as variations of A and O, kinda like accents or something, am I right?

Paedantic Basterd 01-07-2011 11:46 PM

My first impression would be yes, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was completely incorrect.

I would say your perception is accurate. I have no clue how to pronounce those letters. When I read "Ö" I'm definitely just hearing an English "O" in my head.

CanwllCorfe 01-07-2011 11:51 PM

I'm not sure about the Swedish pronunciation, but I am familiar with the German. Well, not the first letter with the small circle, but the ones with the umlauts.

Paedantic Basterd 01-07-2011 11:53 PM

Know what's a great language? ****ing Welsh.

Dw i'n byw yng Nghymru!

What is this I don't even

CanwllCorfe 01-07-2011 11:56 PM

That's what my username is! :D Well.. old welsh. I would love to learn it, but if I spoke it, no one would know the greatness of its fucked up spelling and phonetic system unless I wrote it down.

Dotoar 01-07-2011 11:59 PM

Then it's probably my duty to inform you about the pronounciation, as none of them has any resemblance to the sound of either A or O:

Å: as in "wall" and "crawl"
Ä: as in "pass" and "stare"
Ö: as in "bird" and "sir"

That's why bands like Motörhead and Mötley Crüe sound rather funny up here. Not to mention Tröja, which with is the swedish word for sweater.
