Hey Australians, what's your country like in the winter? Does it get cold or is it just mild? Is there any part of the country where it snows?

On the flip side, what's typically the hottest month of the year there? January?

I've heard at UBC and Simon Fraser it's really good. I have a friend who is at Simon Fraser and she LOVES it. There's a lot of programs offered at both schools. But I think you only get residence for the first year, then you have to find your own place in Vancouver, which is one of the most expensive places to live in North America, even if you're renting. As for other colleges/universities in BC, I really don't know.

Isn't Laces Out Dan a college student in BC? Maybe you could ask him.

To my knowledge, winters are mild, and in most places, you can spot the North Americans because they'll be the ones in shorts. When it does snow, it's in the mountain ranges, it practically never makes it to sea level. As for hottest, I'm pretty sure that's January, at least, it was January when Victoria caught fire due to consistent 45 degree heat in 2009.

I'll tell what Adelaide is like as that's where I live.

Winter: yeah pretty mild can drop to about 4C overnight occasionally, but mostly around 10C. Hottest time is 1st quarter, we've had 47C days in the middle of Feb and heat waves (5 or more days over 38C) in March. NYE was 41C.

Snow occurs in Victoria and NSW and the ACT.

I may have missed somewhere it snows. I think snow once fell n mount Lofty in SA but it is very very rare.

Don't feel bad about it, you are not personally responsible. (The case has been examined in Strasbourg)

Yikes! I don't think I'd like summers in Adelaide. Is it at least pretty dry?
