I wonder if Paloma found what I said to be humorous.. And even if she did, she probably wouldn't post it here for fear of being seen going against the grain of a moderator and another member.
This "community" is a lot less "community" and a lot more "clique". |

Yeah, I might go vegan eventually, but it's difficult when you're in uni.
Everything has meat or cheese or something in it. It's annoying enough as it is to get something without meat. |

I know its personal choice for animals and such. I love animals more than anything, but im not prepared to stop eating meat, not because I like the process of animal to my fridge. But because it actually tastes soooo good. I see eating meat as natural, as we are omnivores, and it keeps the ecosystems in line, humans are a vital part of food webs, I feel.

I used to eat meat, so it's not like I don't know what I'm missing. I know absolutely what I'm missing, and my mother's an amazing cook, so I'm missing a LOT of good tasting meat. But I can't help but think of what happens before the meat gets to my plate. I never let my views get in the way of what other people do, though. People can eat meat in front of me, they just shouldn't force me to touch or eat meat at all. There have been times, and there will be times, where I take meat out of my dishes or pepperoni off pizza. But I have to make due. I stopped eating fish when my mom made me gut shrimp. And then I became a vegetarian altogether after I went to a farm with my family. |

Don't you miss the lovely texture of it? or can you get substitutes?
the funny thing is i KNOW what happens to the animals i watched kill it, cook it, eat it. and it was pretty horrid. but I still really don't feel like im the baddie for eating the meat. why don't you like touching it? i understand not eating it, but touching it is very extreme, well in my opinion, ive never heard of anyone feeling so strongly that they didnt touch meat. I just love my rich red meats too much, and beautiful fish. I would love to give it up if i thought itd make a difference, and if i didnt miss it and could substitute it with something equally tasty, textured and such.

The texture of the substitutes is a lot different than real meat but it tastes pretty similar. Quote:
He didn't ween himself off, he just stopped eating meat cold turkey. <--no pun intended He couldn't stay healthy enough and began getting sick, so he had to start up again. Quote:
I babysit a lot, and I have to make ham and cheese sandwiches and stuff sometimes. I'm also a camp counselor, so sometimes I have to feed the little ones when they're running around and not paying any attention to their meal. It's not that I stay away from touching it at all times, I just prefer not to touch it, it makes me feel sick if I think about it too much. I won't make too much of a big deal. There have also been a few times I ate meat without knowing. I got really upset, but I didn't make a huge deal. I don't preach or try to be "extreme," but I don't like non-vegetarians being that way either. It's rude when someone's telling me how amazing their ham sandwich is or how they love their juicy steak. I know what I'm missing, and I obviously would eat it if it had nothing to do with animals, but if I don't go around preaching my values, other people shouldn't try to sway me from them. |
