Our dear old Dave's retired

Right-Track has stepped down as a mod and on behalf of the mod team we wish him a happy retirement and thanks for all his work.

Looks like we need a new daddy mod now!

Mojo 01-20-2010 12:17 PM

I cant believe that. I thought RT (and Urban) were lifers! In a good way fella's, if thats possible

someonecompletelyrandom 01-20-2010 02:45 PM

Happy retirement old man. :) Will miss seeing your name in blue.

Antonio 01-20-2010 03:26 PM

wow, the one guy i thought i wouldn't see leave.

happy retirement R-T, you did us proud! :thumb:

storymilo 01-20-2010 04:38 PM

I'll be sad to see him go *single tear trickles down*

Will someone else be stepping up as mod?

Dr.Seussicide 01-20-2010 04:39 PM

Sad to see you go man. You've been good. Best of luck.

lucifer_sam 01-20-2010 04:42 PM

We're going to keep the same crew for the time being, we really don't need any more mods right now. Of course, this could change; r-t was hands-down the best mod we had and we're sad to see him go all the same.

Enjoy your retirement buddy.

Guybrush 01-20-2010 05:01 PM

David, you did a brilliant job and you leave some really big shoes to fill. I'm sad to see you leave the team, but if anyone deserves a breather, it's you.

Enjoy your retirement, mate

NSW 01-20-2010 05:33 PM

right-track not a mod...it's just not right I tells ya. :(

But you deserve the break more than anyone. I feel privileged to have been on the mod team with you even if for a short time. Happy retirement buddy!

MUAH!

PS...see you in the English football thread. :D

LoathsomePete 01-20-2010 05:55 PM

Been a pleasure man, thank you for the kind words in the MB Nominations thread (I don't believe I ever thanked you for that).

I hope you still kick around the 'ol site. Enjoy your new found freedom

The privilege was mine. http://forums.civfanatics.com/images...es/hatsoff.gif

Thanks for all the kind words folks. See you around on the boards.

Mojo 01-21-2010 02:15 PM

Now without the responsibility that comes with the role, you can start to be a real bastard around here eh?

start?

Mojo 01-21-2010 04:27 PM

Hehe. I was waiting for that.

someonecompletelyrandom 01-21-2010 04:31 PM

How long was your run RT? Certainly as long as I've been on here. From the older posts it seems you've had this gig for quite a while.

Freebase Dali 01-22-2010 11:35 AM

:(

You guys going to hold a candle-light vigil?
Can we do that one thing with the mini hot-air balloons?
Is there going to be catering? Just for the record, I want those little barbeque wedding sausages.

anticipation 01-22-2010 01:31 PM

david, i remember when we were just starting out like it was yesterday.

rip the greatest mod mb has ever seen.

VEGANGELICA 01-22-2010 01:31 PM

Hey, Right-Track, I'll keep this brief (as a special treat, just for you): thanks for all your hard work! I hope my long posts weren't what finally tipped you over the edge.

I hope you step back up one day. You have the patience of a saint David (If you mind me calling you David don't be shy to tell me). Hands down the best mod I've seen on my forum travels. No offense to you other guys, you guys are awesome too. David was like the Godfather, and you still are, boss :D

Zarko 01-22-2010 07:40 PM

Congrats to a good modding career RT. Rarely had a chat but your influence was felt around the place.

Cheers R-T. You were the first mod who ever paid me any mind and cooler than any winter storm, so take it easy!

Well in Boo Boo case I was using it as an euphemism for being fired. He's decent guy to talk to, a good conversationalist, I like him (as well as R-T too.)

Necromancer 01-22-2010 11:06 PM

(Right-Track)....is....M.B.....period. (Ive been here since 07.., why ..? the 'Funk' Up' a good thang?). when we need someone that is more....Mature..democratic, etc. than..some funking....punk....inmature....bitch.....?

I like BooBoo too.
Where's he gone to again, btw? I see he's been banned yet again.

Poor guy. He has no social life to speak of, and now he doesn't even have this.

He was arguing with bungalow.. said something stupid. I like him too, but I feel he gets very defensive sometimes. Oh well, maybe that's what I like about him.

Ah.
I hope it's not permanent. And you're right, he gets excessively defensive, but I get a lot out of his presence when he's being productive and I know others do too. I just wish he'd take it a little easier around here.
It's hard seeing good members getting themselves on the blacklist. You sort of expect it from the newer members who haven't yet learned the ropes fully, but the guys and gals around here that you actually invest interest in and have been around a long while, as selfish as it may be, you want them to stick around because they do contribute in their own ways and you benefit from it.

Guess there's nothing you can do about their behavior though. Just gotta hope they play by the rules.

Yeah I know what you mean. But booboo's been banned twice since I've been here, so maybe it's something to get used to.

I was a little shocked when anticipation got banned for a week or so though.

Hehe... you must have not been around when he was mod and flipped out and banned like half the active members on this site. That was really the catalyst, but prior to that he'd been in many spats with several members over personal differences. I think most of us can agree that he was the wrong kind of person to be a moderator in an environment filled with opinions you probably don't agree with, but after that incident it seems he just gave up even trying to be a part of the community at all.

I know this is internet or whatever, but if you're going to spend your time on a website learning and contributing and helping others, the least you can do is get along with most of the people you're interfacing with. Arguments are expected, but I think BooBoo just let it get to him too much.

The rest is history I guess.

Oh crap.. we're way off topic here.
Let's fix that:

You will be missed, David. And we know that you'll still be around the boards, but it's kinda like when your parents get a divorce and your dad still visits but he's no longer calling the shots...

Still, to have committed as much as you have while juggling a family, a job and a life, it speaks volumes about your character. I just hope that the next MB daddy aspires to be the next David and that the impression you've made here becomes a standard that everyone aspires to and no one takes for granted.

Thanks.

someonecompletelyrandom 01-23-2010 03:50 PM

Now to make my move...

Vote Conan New Mod 2010

Unless you want him to.

...blah, blah, blah. ;)

Anyone who's modded these boards knows that the Admin here pretty much leave the day to day running of the boards to it's moderators, but when it comes to improving the forum with new ideas, new mods etc. it takes someone to mediate in order to get things done.
I took that responsibility, more out of impatience than anything else.
That and a natural urge to organise shit. It's a life long itch that extends to real life, much to my other half's despair. :/

While it's nice to read some of the comments on here (and I do appreciate them) I can't help getting the impression that my stepping down is going to make some kind of difference to these boards.
Which of course it won't!
I wouldn't have stepped down if that was the case.
It won't make a blind bit of difference while long time veterans like Urban and Big3 still have the desire to keep this place ticking over, along with Tor's organisational skills, jackhammer's enthusiasm, SATCHMO's presence and the priceless work of the other upcoming forum leaders.

Long live MB. :)

Lock please...

I thought Dave's retirement would fit nicely in it's own thread rather than in the meet the mods thread, so I winged it and had'em moved. Just a heads up. :)

Scarlett O'Hara 01-25-2010 03:18 PM

RT!!! Does that mean we can be proper *******s to people together now? :D

This is what happens when I ignore MB for a few days? Man...Dave, say it ain't so!
