I'm with Marijan on this one. Marijuana is known for making people nervous and if you get panic attacks when smoking, that can lead to some serious consequences in your life, possibly some you may want to avoid. I mean, if it's bad for your mental health, don't do it.
I don't think smoking more is the answer. At least that did not help for one of my friends from my hometown.

It's your bodies way of telling you that it's not good for you but you will carry on regardless just as someone who likes a drink after a lengthy lay off feels or a smoker that touches a cigarette for the first time in a few years. The body doesn't lie but unfortunately we also have need and want that overrides this when we should really listen to what the body tells us.

i think that is why pot smokers (myself included) always come prepared with a full list of the benefits of smoking. it is all about convincing yourself.

I can't smoke pot anymore due to anxiety/panic attacks. I smoked almost daily for like 4 years back in the day, and then I quit, then I did it again once in a while after a few years and it gave me anxiety. So I quit for good.

I had a friend once who occasionally had pretty bad anxiety attacks from smoking but I suppose he eventually got over it. Personally I've never experienced anything close to anxiety from it. That sounds really awful - I imagine I would never do it if it made me feel uncomfortable.

Well I suppose some people are more predisposed to it than others. When I started smoking I would bug out pretty frequently, I couldn't even go into a restaurant high without having really bad anxiety. I've since gotten over it but I seldom smoke anyway, it really isn't as enjoyable as I thought it used to be.
I know a few people that have had serious panic attacks on weed without any history of panic disorders, myself included. Not fun.

I've never even smoked a cigarette and I used to get them in class. Then they stopped.
Um, for me it was stress. Are you sure it has to do with drugs at all? I used to start thinking about failure or something and then I would start breathing really heavily and my heart would race. I would feel like I was dying. /END BORING AND UNHELPFUL ANECDOTE |

Really? What just based on what I listen to? Not surprising really.
Definitely true. I don't remember having anxiety problems prior to what I mentioned above, but did/do have problems with depression, and the two often go hand in hand. Also somewhere in there I did heavier drugs which undoubtedly fucked with my nervous system.

As for panic attacks - I don't mean to diminish the problem. I have had my share of friends/family who have dealt with depression/anxiety/addiction/other mental illnesses and none of those are things to fuck around with. I doubt that weed is worth even one panic attack.

This is really not uncommon, I've also experienced this and so have a lot of people and yet for some stupid reason it seems to remain much a myth just the same. I think, like duga mentioned, that a lot of people are just loathe to admit that weed might not be good for you. It's often used as an argument in discussions how marijuana is not as bad for you physically as for example smoking or alcohol and one conveniently ignores the effect it can have on mental health ..
