Car Stereo System advice

Ok, so I recently got a 2002 rav4, but it's speakers are dying on me. I like to listen to music fairly loud in the car (blasting sometimes), and I really want some good quality speakers. But I know absolutely nothing about cars/speakers, so I need some advice.

What is the best brand/type of speakers to get? I mainly want quality, so I don't necessarily want huge sub-woofers because it's not like I listen to rap all the time (only some of the time), I'm mostly an indie-alternative type of guy. I just want speakers that will give me the best quality sound, and be able to take a lot of noise, because I like my music loud!

I'd prefer not too expensive as well, though I'm not exactly broke. I have friends who are car experts and they can help me install everything, so that's not a problem. Any thoughts, ideas, advice? Thanks!
