GivesMeHope
Home - GivesMeHope - Like FML, but for optimists!
Here are some of my favourites so far: Last year, I was going to kill myself. I wrote a note and slipped it into my best friend's locker at school. That night, I was preparing to die, when she crawled through my window and kissed me. My first real kiss. Kristain, I know you read GivesMeHope all the time. Will you marry me? --------------------- A couple of weeks ago, one of my family's close friend's father passed away. We saw him a couple days after, and my little sister went up to him and told him that she would share her daddy with him, because no one should have to live without a daddy. She's four. She GMH. ------------------------ I was at the mall the other day when I saw an old couple sitting together. The man looked over at the woman and said, "Jane, we did it. We grew old together." The look in her eyes GMH. ------------------------- One day, while heavily pregnant with me, my mother fainted on the sidewalk. A homeless man she had never seen before made sure she got the hospital safely. Out of gratitude, my parents paid for his art courses at a local art school. 20 years later, and on every holiday, he sends my 4 year old beautiful picture books he illustrated himself. GMH -------------------------- Today I remembered GMHs about people writing notes saying, "Smile. You are beautiful" in Eating Disorder recovery books. I decided to do the same at my local bookstore. A four year old boy saw what I was doing and helped me make notes for more than 50 books. He GMH. ...I'm tearing up right now reading all of these. Post your favourites? Last night I was walking with friends back from the pub and we passed a bakery making bread for the next day, the owner was hanging out front and when he saw us he gave us all freshly baked crusty loaves and a tub of butter.
The brilliant niceness of the gesture totally went over my head until this morning. |

Wow these are so powerful. I'm not gonna lie, I was borderline tearing up at this one:
'Freshman year, there was a crippled girl bound to a wheelchair. For 4 years, she did physical therapy and progressed to crutches. When we graduated a few weeks ago, she handed her crutches to an officer and walked across the entire stage. The applause from the seniors was deafening. She cried the whole way. GMH ' And I'm glad some of them are pretty humourous too: 'Today, I lost my virginity. I'm an avid WoW player and spend most of my time on Digg.com. GMH ' |

I knew you'd love it. operationbeautiful is also a really nice site. I've always believed that people should be told something nice about them once a day, it's why I always call my friends beautiful. [= |

At my college graduation everyone is allowed to take a loved one with them as they walk across the stage.
The last girl to walk across held the arm of her 90 year old grandpa. As they crossed the stage the chancelor read her grandfathers name. Why? He graduated 60 years ago but didn't get to walk his own graduation because he was fighting in WWII. GMH. ------------------------------------------- Last year, my teacher told us about a student of hers whose dad was working as a doorman in the World Trade Center during 9/11. Instead of leaving when the plane hit, he stayed behind and ushered everyone out as calmly as he could. The building collapsed on him. He and the other heroes of 9/11 GMH. |

Today my 7 year old daughter gave my 5 year old son a kiss on the cheek.
After she walked away, I saw him rubbing the spot where she had kissed him. I asked if he was wiping the kiss off. He said "no, I'm rubbing it in so it gets to my heart faster." Siblings that truly love each other GMH! ----------------------------------------------------- Today I was pushing a cart full of groceries outside in the pouring rain, when I noticed I wasn't getting wet. I turned around and saw a man holding an umbrella over my head. He smiled and said, "I don't mind if I get wet." People like him GMH. |
