Money, and the presumption that the money spent on the improvements won't balance out the money lost through leaks and lawsuits. Of course, now BP is ****ed because their gamble failed. It's scary how true it is in Fight Club where Narrator describes his job to the woman on the plane.

But yes the sinkhole is another picture that amazed me.

And about the space picture, I find it even more incredible to think that, on that picture, the entire Earth which we tend to think of as huge compared to most things would be less than a pixel.
You're right, I do mean circular It's very late here... ha.

And yeah, that reminds me of this picture:

That is indeed a great picture. For those of you who don't know, the very small red dots are the earliest galaxies in the entire Universe, some of them coming just millions of years after the Big Bang.

The space pictures are the most emotional and thought-provoking, for me. Just too awe-inspiring for words

the tiny red dot in this picture is our sun, the giant curve is the largest known star

and this is the video that goes with that picture. I've watched it a half-dozen times and it still sends shivers down my spine. Makes me feel all spaced out and unimportant for the rest of the day

That video is truly stunning. I knew roughly the size and immensity of these things, but this video puts it into perspective.

a few skateboarding pictures i think are worth a thousand words

one of my favorite pictures. don't know who that is, but just the idea of a kid taking on a challenge like that is inspiring

Jake Brown, pro skater falling from 50ft high at the X-Games in 2007. it was the big air event, and it was from the end of this all the way to the ground http://z.about.com/d/skateboard/1/0/...attMorning.jpg

Jaime Thomas and the Leap of Faith. just the look on his face where he just throws caution to the wind

Geoff Rowley, in one hell of a cover shot
