It's always better to read the book than to watch the movie. I've found that I I see a movie based on a novel before I read the book, it kind of ruins it when I actually do get around to reading the book. And also, good call on Cider House Rules, that was an amazing book. There was another book that I read recently, I think it was called A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genious, or something to that effect, but it really was an amazing book.

I think sometimes it can be easier to watch the movie first, so you can picture the characters a little better and it's cool when you recognize certian parts. I hate it when you read a book then watch the movie and it either turns out to be completely different or they leave a lot of the good stuff out, or when it doesn't seem like they're letting people know what's going on good enough. I know with some movies/books there obviously isn't room for all that stuff, but still, everyone hates that.

See with me it's totally different. I like to make up my own images in the book and figure out for myself what the characters would look like. If I see a movie before I read the book, it just isnt as good.
