I like to try different box wines.Black Box is pretty good and Killer Juice Cabernet Sauvignon is suprisingly good
My wife loves Chardonnay,but I don't really care for it too much
Ecco Domani and Yellowtail are a good value

I myself just bought a bottle of Ste Genevieve (out of Fort Stockton TX) wine tonight, a cabernet. Not the best wine ever, but the price to quality ratio is one of the best you'll find out there IMO.

I can't stand drinking beer, for the most part, because it makes me feel so full. I'll have one on occasion if I go out, but I'm more likely to get liquor or wine.

there's also a store in gruene that i like to sit in front of and get drunk when i'm in town,....heckle the tourists (am i a tourist?)

over in east texas, canton where they have the big fleemarket, there's the savannah winnery, where the old man propriter, ed, lets me drink for free (said in my best geko voice) and i'm kinda partial to that joint,.....

Just attended Barrel Tasting this past weekend- which was basically a 3-day wine orgy in my mouth. I went to 20 wineries over 3 days, and drank wine futures straight from a barrel from 11am to 6pm each and every day all for $20. I scribbled down some fully legit notes in my drunk stooper. Most of these are wines that will not be available until this coming Spring/Summer (whites) or next Fall (reds).

The best stuff: Coppola's Zin and Cab Sauv, Graton Ridge's Zin*, Hop Kiln's Pinot Noir and Thousand Flowers*, La Crema Chardonnay, Wilson's Reserve and Tori Zin's, David Coffaro's Carignon, Dutcher Crossing's Maple Vineyard Zin*, Fritz's Zin Unreleased.

I'm also going to whore out a few places that are lesser known classics: Hook and Ladder, and Simi. Two great wineries with friendly people, generous pours, and consistently good wine across the board. Honorable mention to Suncé.

While the old lady was knocked up, she could only drink red wines. I have had my fair share of those, and have moved on. Im not a big fan of the reds. I usually stick to Pinot Grigio, but as far as cheap recommendations go, I'd have to say Relax riesling is the ****. Its ten bucks a fifth and fourteen a Liter. Its sweet, even for a riesling, but isnt bland at all, which is a problem I find in rieslings.

Pinot wines are by far the tastiest. Expensive as hell, but popping a bottle or two before a night out's always worth it. If I'm on a budget though, can't go far wrong with the fruitier rose reds.

Just saw this thread and have not had the time to read back through the whole thing. I drink beer myself, either home brewed or one of Sam Adam's fine ales, yum,yum....

However, recently, we had a friend coming to stay for a while so I asked what she liked to drink. She was very specific: Yellow Tail Chardonnay, best in a big bottle. Apparently, this is an Australian white wine made from grapes which I obviously tried on several occasions and wow, I liked it. Not too expensive, not too sweet, not sour, just nice, to me anyway.

Anyone else like that one...

While I can't comment on that specific wine, I will say that every Aussie wine I have tried has been amazing. It's becoming a favorite region for me.
