Of course not. Festivus is the season of second chances after all!

Thanks, Conan. I was using the "Fake Argument Thread" for inspiration, so although my mind may be devious I doubt I would have thought of this song if it weren't for MB.

I'm glad you liked it, Lateralus! I was hoping someone else would find the song amusing besides just myself.

yeah just do it... you have like 2 more days, till we have digested our Festivus dinner.

Pretty psyched there's a contribution by Erica... I really liked her previous "I'm in love with your avatar", it just haunted me for days.
... and now, let's buffer the youtube video.

Edit: Just brilliant! Loved it!

Allen Salkin's video "How to Celebrate Festivus"
Remember, NO TINSEL on your Festivus Pole!! And beware of those strippers.

After watching this video based on his Festivus book, I decided Allen Salkin may be one of the few people who would appreciate this thread. So I e-mailed him back in October to tell him about MusicBanter's 2009 Festivus Song Contest and our Festivus songs.

He replied back, which was cool.

I was semi-thinking of doing a 2011 Festivus Song contest, but I just haven't had much time to work on songs this fall. Maybe next year, Conan, we can again experience the thrill of Festivus Competition while making new Festivus songs.

Here's the e-mail reply I sent to Allen in response to his. He is thinking of compiling Festivus songs and so I wanted to tell him of the ones I know that are available online:

Re: Your reply from October 20, 2011

Hi Allen,

I'm glad you enjoyed the song and I'm especially happy that it made you think of your Festivus pole. Maybe it's time to get that pole out of the crawl space and dust it off!

Unfortunately, only two people contributed to the Festivus song contest. The songs can be viewed online at this MusicBanter thread:

http://www.musicbanter.com/lounge/45...tml#post776744

The only other contributor besides myself was a young lad named "Conan" who offered two Festivus songs. The first was a spoof of John Cage's famous song 4'33", which has no music at all and is just supposed to include the sounds of the audience fidgeting and coughing, etc. The second was a Festivus rap song:

4'33 The Festivus Version - by Conan

4'33 of Festivus - YouTube

Gather Round The Pole (feat. Wu-Tang Clan) - by Conan

Gather Round The Pole (feat. Wu-Tang Clan) - YouTube

Since I made my song back in 2009, I've listened online every once in a while to the music that other people have created after being inspired by Festivus.

Have you heard the "A Festivus for the Rest of Us" choir song by D.V. Montoya? Shockingly traditional-sounding, here it is sung by the La Habra High School Choir:

The Festivus Carol (LHHS Choir Winter Concert 2010) - YouTube

The following are other Festivus songs that you may enjoy hearing, if you haven't already:

"A Festivus for The Rest of Us" - by Standing on Friday

Standing On Friday - A Festivus For The Rest Of Us - YouTube

"Let Us Have A Festivus" - by Tea With Warriors

Let Us Have A Festivus! - YouTube

"Hooray, Hooray for Festivus" - by Bret (emphasizing that the pole must be TINSEL-free, according to all Festivus Orthodoxies.

Hooray Hooray (for festivus) 2010.wmv - YouTube

And finally, this short song amused me because the singer said he's not much of a performer and therefore used animated characters:

"Festivus for Evermore" - by Marc N.

Festivus For Evermore - YouTube

Given how great Festivus is, I am surprised that there aren't more songs about it...which I noticed back in 2009 when I made mine. The dearth of Festivus songs makes me consider creating a new one, perhaps a thrash metal-genre song called "I've Got Grievances!!" (screamed) or an electro-dance song called "Pin Me."

If you do compile Festivus songs, I'd love to hear them! There is never enough quirkiness in the world, I think.

~ Erica
HAPPY FESTIVUS, MUSICBANTER!!

Haha, that's brilliant! Hopefully we'll have a contest again next year and get some more participants.

Happy festivus to all!
