Anyway, this sounds like a perfect description of me, except I seem to be tired even with what should be an adequate amount of sleep (not to say I get that much very often). And it's pissing me off. I was in an important meeting at work this morning yet I still managed to zone out a few times - it's not as if I was bored... I just lost focus. Which leads to the question... WTF is wrong with me?!?

I'm alright these days, but when I was living up in the high arctic, it was a mess. We all have internal clocks that tick away, but these need environmental cues to stay on track. The day is 24 hours but your internal clock is perhaps 24.5 hours or 23 hours and the longer you go without an environmental cue that tells you "it's morning" or something similar, the more offset your internal clock will be - unless it goes on so far it starts catching up again.
All that quickly happens when you live up in the high arctic where it's usually light 24 hours a day or dark 24 hours a day. Your internal clock is completely confused for a while, then it starts to catch up again, then it gets messed up again. It could probably also happen if you seclude yourself inside an apartment. Environmental cues means light. When you wake up, there's supposed to be light and if you have a hard time getting up in the morning, you could try looking at bright light for a few seconds. It should get those hormones working and make your body realize it's morning and time to get up. Similarly, you should obviously stay away from bright light if you wanna sleep. We are not very light sensitive which makes it take a little effort to tune your internal clock by artificial light, so soft reading light is probably okay, but keep the level down and don't look in the bulb if you wanna sleep.

Up until the past few days I had gotten about 3-4 hours a night like Seltzer and Lucifer_sam, then remained lethargic and groggy all day. Now Im just constantly tired as hell and just taking 1-2 naps at random times that last anywhere from 1-3 hours. Each day is insanely long and it all kind of seems a bit outside of reality, and blurry. I kind of like it.

recently i started taking sleeping pills. they work like a charm. well when i use them that is. |

When I was working... I was doing 5 to 6 hours a night, Staying up to 1 or 2 and waking up at 7am for work.
Since I got laid off in May... I sleep whenever wake up whenever.... Its always changing... I usually do 6 to 8 hours sleep. Like last week I was going to sleep at 9am waking up at 5pm.... yesterday I went to to sleep at 8pm and woke up at 6am... Its only thing about not having a job I like. I go to sleep when I tired. I can sleep during the day just fine. I just put a dark dark curtain over the window. Then again maybe its just me. I usually have no problem sleeping unless I got something on my mind. *knocks on wood* My mom doesn't sleep... I think she might do 2 hours a night, I am always worried Ill end up like her. |

My sleeping schedule sucked for about three weeks. I was in the process of quitting one job, and had to go full time on another job... so I was doing two full time jobs. Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday were my "Hell Days" since I had to work on like an hour nap or so. My night job was from 10pm to 7am Thursday to Monday while the day job was 9am to 5 pm Monday to Friday. So I'd have to get used to working Thursday, Thursday night, grabbing a bite to eat/nap, working Friday, Friday night, then break till Monday. After working Sunday night, I'd have to work Monday morning, Monday night, Tuesday morning, and then I'd have my break. I'm just glad I decided to quit my night job. I'm glad to sleep on a regular schedule now, haha!

i work an odd job, it's a full time graveyard shift, but part time hours. so i'm expected to be at work everyday and alert from 11pm until 3-4am on average, but sometimes until 6-ish. as such i sleep all day, basically 8am until 6pm, i'll wake up around 3-4 in the afternoon then roll over and get that extra bit of sleep that i always longed for when i had to use an alarm to wake up.

And I sleep about every other day, unless I've been taking pills. Then I sleep like a baby |
