Haha, strange thing that you're my mom then.

Being 21 doesn't mean much overhere.
You can drive a moped and drink alcohol at 16 and.
You can drive a car and smoke weed at 18.
I believe you can ride a motorbike at 21 here. That's all .
Ah yeah, you parent's aren't officially responsible for you after you've become 21, that's another thing.

Weed is illegal here.
At 16 you can have your driver's permit and after 6 months, you can try for your license.
At 18, you are considered an adult and can order stuff from TV, can buy porn, buy lottery tickets, go to SOME clubs, and... what else?
At 21, you can drink and go to all clubs.
At 26 I think you can rent a car.
Yeah.

at 18 you can do pretty much everything here. That's legal, of course :P

More reasons to move to the Netherlands. Just wondering, how expensive is it to get an apartment there? An are there a lot of jobs available?

There's a shortage of jobs here, unless you don't mind doing anything.
Apartment, depends on where you live.
I'm not completely into the renting prices.
IF you want to live in a big city in Amsterdam, I think you can get a decent two bedroom apartment for about 5-600 dollars a month.
If you don't mind living in a small city or a town, you can get an apartment for half that money.

Where I live, in a small town, a huge villa on 3000 square meters of land costs about 4-500.000 dollars. In Amsterdam such a thing would cost 1,7 to 2,5 million dollars.

You can buy a house in a row of houses (google translate calls it a 'townhouse', is that right?) for under 80.000 dollars.
Such a house in Amsterdam would cost over 175000 dollars.

If you look carefully you can buy a detached house in my area for about 125000 dollars.

Hope I did the calculations right from euro's to dollars .

I must say that living here isn't bad, I just get the feeling that, being on this forum, the dutch are pretty harsh. Especially on the internet. There's friendly and unfriendly people everywhere though

Oh, yeah. Maximum speed of a car on a freeway is 75 miles an hour.
In towns it's 30 miles an hour.
On nearly every other road it's 50 miles an hour.

The maximum speed on a freeway will be upped to 80 miles an hour next year.
Which I think is ridiculous. With the traffic in this country, 60 miles an hour tops during day time would be good. At night time 100 miles an hour would be fine.

Before you move here: Don't bring an american car here. Petrol is almost 9 dollars per gallon (almost 2 dollars per litre, I don't know how you guys measure that )

9 dollars!!! What!?!? That's insane! I'll probably go to the Netherlands for like a year, it's definitely on my bucket list.

Thanks for the info btw.

We're used to it now.
My car, which is a medium sized station wagon, runs 1 liter of petrol every 15 kilometres, I can get up to 17 kilometres in the summer. You do the maths to gallons and miles ;D

As far as I know, american cars do half that.

I'm afraid I'm late, but... with a strong "retroactive effect":

Feliz cumpleaños, bella boricua!
