The Musicbanter 2009 Awards - Nominations Round
Hey guys!
Soon the year will be over and it's time for the annual musicbanter awards. This year, we're going to ask you guys for nominations to the different categories and then somewhere around the middle of the month (I think), we'll start the voting. Just nominate members for one or more of the categories. The only two rules you have to remember are :
PS! Try to be honest in your post and don't let others nominations influence who you mention. If someone gets nominated more than once, it might be a helpful indication that they belong in the list if we have to do a little cleaning up later on.
I wanted there to be 20 categories but I could only come up with 19. Those who want can try and come up with a category and then I'll add the one I think is best to the list. ;) This is a bit improvised, but I think it'll work. Now get postin'! |
Oh and by the way, the grandest cup of them all goes of course to the member of the year. This is not it but it will be similar!

Best Journal - An Alternative Look at the 1960's by TheCellarTapes. I have learned so much from this journal and it helped me discover some of my new favorite artists from one of my favorite genres. He doesn't miss an artist either and he seems like such a expert on each and every band he posts. Excellent write-ups.
A super close second was Aural Fixation - Gavin B's Music Blog. He works so hard on it and I have so much new exciting music in my library because of his journal. Everyhting from Eddy Davis's Jazz Band to Yann Tierson- he's got such an amazing variety in there. I'm sure anyone could find a new little jewel in his journal. Best Writer - Gavin B. Biggest music nerd - Jackhammer - From what I've gathered, he has the broadest knowledge of music on the forum. He knows so much about so many genres it just blows my mind. Biggest wacko - Terrible Lizard Funniest member - Urban Hatemonger - lets face it, the guy is hilarious and doesn't really even try to be Angriest member - Boo Boo - I've never went any rounds with Boo Boo myself and I actually quite like the guy and I love reading his video game stuff but more than a few times I've ran across threads where he is at odds with other members Nicest member - Jackhammer Biggest contributor - Bulldog has been a super mod and he is always in the mix of things here at musicbanter. His posts are always optimum quality and has thrown out some excellent reviews, threads, discussions etc. Not to mention he has contributed so generously to my classic country albums thread :D Most Improved Member - Mirrorball95 (or whatever his number was) because he isn't here anymore Most virtuosic - Lateralus- I'm not really up on all the musicians on the site but I saw one of Lateralus's music videos and was impressed. Best avatar - Molecules when he had his Marilyn Monroe avatar Moderator of the Year - Urban Hatemonger - what can I say, he's my favorite mod and probably my favorite member too. He does his job well and keeps this place under control. I would also like to add Most Generous Member Loathsome Pete doesn't even blink an eye as to send a album to you and personally he has really got me into electronic because of his wonderful downloads I have really been enjoying! |
Last year we had most missed poster, which i feel deserves a category. And maybe smartest/most intelligent poster as well.
I'll post my list eventually, once ive made sure i haven't missed anyone out. Although i feel i will probably still do this. |

Funniest member all my dudes from the recreational drug thread; rezz & thrice & freebase dali especially. Angriest member i don't know, how can you be angry on mb? Nicest member Bulldog's the clear choice, the guy has impeccable music taste and is always there for anyone who needs a hookup/recommendation. Biggest Troll certainly not unfan, i will always love him, so maybe coryallen2? Biggest contributor If Gavin B. didn't stay in the obscure corners of mb it'd be him, but this year I'll say Toretorden. His systematic approach to modding has made mb look presentable for the first time in our tumultuous history, and he is a darn good poster as well. Most Improved Member Molecules came back, which is good because he's a cool dude and likes good musc, unlike most of you. Most virtuosic lateralus makes music, so her. Best avatar murderjunkie will always win this category. Moderator of the Year david is still very much the knot that holds all the loose ends together, so it's got to be him. Best new 2009 member zeppy111, i don't see you much but you're killing it on here. Member of the Year Bulldog; with countless contributions to nearly every facet of mb, to his assumption of a then-vacant modship without missing a beat in terms of posting, it's a no-brainer. Dude's the new lee, as blasphemous as that is to say. |

For an overall absorption of music i have to go Jackhammer. * Funniest member - Urban and WWWP's posts probably tickle me more so than anyone else. * Angriest member - Boo Boo * Nicest member - Kayleigh edges this one i think because not only does she frequently welcome the newbs i've noticed she even tries to be nice to the members who aren't always nice to her whereas i'd be tempted to tell them to piss off. I'm not sure she knows any other way. AwwSugar deserves mention too. I don't think i've ever seen Bulldog be short with any member here, even if they deserved it and both he and LoathsomePete are always generous with the much appreciated links. * Biggest Troll - At one point i may have been tempted to say Rickenbacker but not so much now. I really don't know anymore. Pass. * Biggest contributor - Jackhammer, being the post whore he is, takes this one for me. He's careful and selective with his threads. LoathsomePete again deserves mention, his music related posts are always precise, informative and he's had a couple of fantastic threads this year too. * Most Improved Member - Probably Rickenbacker as for a while i didnt realise he had such creative, well written, knowledgeable posts in him. Sidewinder gets mention too as i dont remember there was anything ever wrong with their posts or anything but i've started to pay much more attention in recent months as the content is usually more than worth reading. * Best avatar - Am i allowed to say Piss Me Off again? I know he got this last year but no one has bettered it in 2009. * Moderator of the Year - Jackhammer stepped for a down and has just been modded again so i'm not including him in this category. Bulldog and Pete are out in front for me but to be honest i almost feel bad for leaving any of them out as i think this place is well modded. Bulldog just say edges it for taking JH's position at the time i seem to remember, and doing it so well. How he manages to find time to throw so many links around i'll never know but really i could have made the same case here for Pete. * Best new 2009 member - NumberNineDream takes this one. Shes smart, shes got a great taste in music, shes always willing to listen to music she's never heard before, shes willing to take the time to share with others, shes friendly and therefore she's the best addition this year in my book. Kayleigh, Shizotypic, AwwwSugar, Antonio and 333 also deserve mention though. * Member of the Year - Bulldog has done a great 100 thread, started threads with other users, kept a journal going, taken over the Music Trade thread, welcomed the newbs, been completely inoffensive as far as i remember, shared a lot of music with a lot of people AND helped mod this place. Come on people, this is a no brainer. LoathsomePete comes in in second place though. I'll do the two i got added later and maybe some of the ones i left out. |

I haven't been around that long, but I'll nominate a few that I can.
* Smartest poster - VEGANGELICA. A couple times I've replied to her posts, and I realized how stupid I must seem to people who read both her and then my posts in order. She's pretty intimidating. >< * Most Missed Poster - I wasn't around when Dirt Mcgirt was, but I checked his post in the graveyard one night and then looked up and read every post he's made...and pretty much was crying with laughter the whole time. If he came back that'd be great. * Best Journal - I like Jackhammers I guess, just cause its all over the place. * Funniest member - Janszoon seems like a pretty funny fellow. * Nicest member - Too many to choose from... * Biggest contributor - From what I've seen its Jackhammer. Not even close really. * Best avatar - Satchmos eyeball-head man is incredible. Kayleighs is pretty great too. * Moderator of the Year - I'm gonna say right_track on this one. |

Out of the three I'm thinking of, I have to go with Tore, because Tore presents his arguments with such neutrality and with no apparent emotional involvement. Worst argumentalist - Neapolitan. Best Writer - This has to go to Vegangelica. But I'm rather confused as to what type of writing we're talking about here... Biggest music nerd - Urban. Biggest Drama Whore - The Unfan (posthumous nominiation)
Member of the Year - Loathsome Pete. Honestly I think he's the best writer on here and through his blog and posts I've found a ton of my new favorite music. Most Improved Member - Captain Caveman. I think he surprised a lot of people with his journal... the quality was up there with the best I've ever seen on here and he was completely appropriate with handling the responses and comments (unlike... maybe 90 percent of the other correspondence I've seen from him). I think he deserves a win for proving he isn't just here to be sarcastic funny. Most Missed Poster - sleepy jack. I miss his humour and he seemed like a nice guy. Best new 2009 member - I've got to give it to Btown. He's an all around good poster with a dynamite taste in music. And hey storymilo... you come in a very close second place. I also want to give a shout out to Freebase... I don't know a lot about the kind of music you like but your one funny guy. Most virtuosic - Laterius.
